    We so appreciate hearing from our newsletter subscribers. Your questions and thoughts are very important to us and allow us to focus our articles and research on topics we know intrest our readers. Below is an email I recently received from one of our ADHD Newsletter subscribers...

    " Do I believe in ADD/ADHD?

    Please let me say YES! I Believe. Let me say that their are parents, teachers, school employees, relatives an on an on THAT DON'T. I will admit when I heard of all of this fifteen years ago I didn't believe either. This is very sad and how does one get through to these folks that don't believe. I am keeping a journal of all that happens with our wonderful school systems that really don't like dealing with this subject. Maybe that is why this state didn't pass the NCLB program laws. We have an administration that doesn't want to approve another dollar for these kids and our future in this world.

    Now my major concern is school authority heads that don't believe. I understand their thirteen things listed under the disabilities act. No ADD/ADHD isn't listed but in some cases it's worse than some of the conditions listed. It is a neurological condition so there fore it should be considered a learning disability.

    Will be getting touch with the State and PACER for some of their expertise on the matter.

    Conference on Brain Development & Learning

    Here is information on a great Conference next summer in beautiful British Columbia.

    The 2nd Biennial Conference on Brain Development & Learning: Making Sense of the Science Conference in Vancouver, July 12-15, 2008.

    This conference is intended as a service to the community (British Columbia and worldwide), to help parents, doctors, educators, and others who work with young children on a daily basis learn about some of the most exciting cutting-edge research findings on the brain and child development-from the very people who have made those discoveries!

    A number of the speakers are world famous for their research on the Pre-Frontal Cortex and ADHD, or research on stress and depression. The conference is sponsored by BC Children's Hospital, the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP), the Brain Research Centre, BC Mental Health & Addiction Services of PHSA, and UBC.

    ADHD Kids "Hitting the Wall" at School

    Parents: Your Child and School

    It is the time of year when ADHD kids start to "hit the wall" at school. Are you seeing this in your home?

    Imagine the most difficult environment for a child who has difficulty sitting still, difficulty paying attention, and loves to talk to other children?

    Imagine that this child has to go into this environment every day, and is expected to perform successfully.

    This describes your child's classroom setting. There are a lot of distractions, yet they are told to sit still, don't move, don't talk. They must pay attention to boring worksheets, and keep on task until the work is finished. None of these things come easily to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder kids. But day by day, off to school they go.

    Many ADHD kids "hit a wall" in school as the school year progresses. Every week they just get a little farther and farther behind, until they're so far behind that it's impossible to catch up. They lose their homework assignments, even after they have spent hours working on them. And they study hard for tests only to perform poorly the next day. They just slip farther and farther behind with each passing week.

    ADHD is most often recognized and referred for treatment in third grade.This is when kids usually hit the "academic wall" for the first time, and the parents search for some help. We also see many referrals when the child leaves Elementary School for Junior High School, with several classes and several teachers. Many ADHD kids who found ways to compensate in Elementary School are totally lost in Junior High School.

    How can we help these children to be more successful in school?
