Greetings!

Lead Pastor of Congregational Life

Fellow Montview Members,

As we gather this coming Sunday, back to our 2 service schedule (8:15 and 10:30 a.m.,) I especially want to invite you to the all-congregational adult education offering at 9:15 in the McCollum Room. Before classes kick off for the year, we have an opportunity to be together and hear a presentation from artist Kathy Thaden, who crafted the beautiful new mosaic artwork in the Commons. It's good to remind ourselves, before the busy Fall ensues, that we are collectively "The Montview Congregation." As you listen through Kathy's presentation, you will hear Montview's theology - a good reminder of what draws us here together.

I hope you will come to greet friends, meet and welcome new folks and step into the circle of Montview's fellowship for the program year ahead. Following the 10:30 am service, there will be a simple pizza lunch and ice cream social sponsored by the Montview Deacons. The social is open to the community and will be a great time to invite and include our Park Hill neighbors to our fellowship.

Blessings and joy this week,

Cindy

The Rev. Ian Gregory Cummins
Lead Pastor of Spiritual Life

Hi Everyone,

This week's Lectio Divina is from one of the most well-known of Jesus' teachings, his Sermon on the Mount:

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."

Matthew 5: 1 - 6

Are you poor in spirit? Is your heart open to the pain around you? Are you meek? Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? I'm not sure I can truly say yes to any of these. I want to. I believe in them. But I know that too often I am prideful, afraid to feel pain and self-centered. Which leaves me questioning whether I really do want to embrace these qualities. And whether I truly believe such people are blessed. Something to pray about this week...

Grace and goodness,

Ian
