Get Out and Vote on May 8th! Indiana Primary 101 What is a primary? A primary election is an election in which party members or voters select candidates for an election. Primary elections are one means by which a political party nominates candidates for the next general election.
Who can vote? Indiana is an "open primary" state, which means that a registered voter may vote in any party primary regardless of his own party affiliation.
Why is it important? Turnout levels in primary elections are routinely low. In 2010, for instance, only 25 percent of registered voters showed up. Low-turnout primaries tend to select the most partisan candidates.
To review the full list of candidates on your local ballot, visit www.indianavoters.com and click on the link Review Candidates on My Ballot.
When and where do I vote? Voting begins at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8th, and ends at 6 p.m. You may request an absentee ballot at: www.indianavoters.com or vote early by visiting your county clerk's office.
AND - To learn more about how your legislator voted last session, see the MCCOY 2012 Indiana General Assembly Voting Record on Youth-Related Legislation- More info HERE.
