JPII Annual Lecture Summary, New Website
The Fifth John Paul II Annual Lecture took place on May 16, 2012 in Rome. The lecture series is organized and sponsored by the John Paul II Center for Interreligious Dialogue, the Russell Berrie Foundation and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) and features renowned religious leaders who embody the ideals of interreligious dialogue and understanding.
This year's lecturer was Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Commission of the Holy See for Religious Relations with the Jews. In his lecture, "Building on Nostra Aetate: 50 Years of Christian-Jewish Dialogue," His Eminence called "Nostra Aetate" the founding document of the dialogue between the Catholic Church and Judaism. The Cardinal also highlighted the Jewish roots of Christianity and stressed that "the Catholic Church is obliged to denounce anti-Judaism" and expressed his gratitude for "every contribution made here to expand the dialogue with Judaism on the foundation of "Nostra Aetate." The lecture was very well attended, with audience including cardinals, several Ambassadors to the Holy See and the U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism. You can read the entire lecture here:

The Lecture was followed by a press conference which featured the Cardinal together with the John Paul II Center's director, Rabbi Jack Bemporad. The press conference provided an exceptional occasion to have a Cardinal and a Rabbi address the question of Christian-Jewish dialogue together. Some of the resulting press material is available on the John Paul II Center's website.
In time for the lecture, the John Paul II Center launched its new website at www.jp2center.org. The new website features information on the Center, the Russell Berrie Fellowship and all related components, such as the Israeli Study Tour or the short courses offered by distinguished visiting lecturers. The website provides valuable information on the Russell Berrie Fellows and their achievements and efforts in interreligious dialogue. It will also serve as a resource for those interested in interreligious dialogue. Please visit the website today!

Flinn Scholars Summer Seminar 2012
The Flinn Scholars arrived in Budapest two weeks ago, and have spent their time travelling around Hungary and Romania visiting historical sights, listening to expert lecturers, interacting with locals, and experiencing regional cultures and customs. The goal of the Flinn Summer Seminar is to open the students' eyes and minds to this part of the world, give them an understanding of realities outside the United States, challenge their ideas and provoke thought about world issues. To achieve this goal, the IIE European Office annually puts together a diverse program, addressing issues from politics to architecture, and opera to economics. This summer seminar is one component of the Flinn Foundation Scholarship, awarded annually to 20 outstanding Arizona high school seniors, provides full scholarships for four-year degree programs offered through Arizona's public university system.
