Summer is here and fishing is getting better.
For the last week or so we have had some great fishing weather, the current has been running pretty good, and the water is warming up. As I write this the Kelp Paddies outside still don't seem to be holding many yellowtail, and the tuna are still down about 250 miles but our local areas have been much better. The seabass are once again the top fish with good catches reported at Catalina, San Clemente, La Jolla, and Newport areas. A few Island Yellowtail are being caught along with some showing up in La Jolla.
Our Oceanside Anglers Club is on track to do better than ever this year with well over 200 members in our club. The first Tuesday of the month meetings are well attended with around 80 or so anglers and some great speakers. We already have some impressive fish on the board including a 8.4 pound ladies division bass.
Next meeting is scheduled for July 5th at 7PM. I know this is a tough date for everyone with the July 4th weekend just prior to it but hopefully we will have a strong turnout as we again have a great speaker, great food, and another great raffle.
See you there!!! |

| July 5th Speaker | |
The speaker for our meeting scheduled on July 5th is none other than Mike Ryba with Reebs Lures. This is great timing for two reasons, the first being our Bass release tournament is scheduled for July 9th, and second is the 3rd place finisher from our 10lb line tournament won over a $1000 with a 8.4lb bass caught in our local kelp beds with one of his lures.
Mike pours both fresh and saltwater baits in his own unique designs. Reebs Lures also manufactures kelp jigs they call "Kelp Assassins". These jigs have dominated the San Diego tournament trail, and have caught many anglers their own personal best Calico Bass, Sand Bass, and Halibut.
Mike will talk about his lures and how to use them to catch big bass.

| July 4th San Clemente Trip | |
I have a handful of people that have said they are going to make the San Clemente trip but as of now nobody has committed to time and dates of when they can go. (Now I know what Ken goes through when he tries to put together the club trip.)
Rather than try to work with everyone's schedule on making a trip to San Clemente, I will give you the time and dates of when I will be out there and if any other OAC boat would like to join me just let me know when you are coming and I will look for you out there.
If we get a few boats that make the trip we can raft up and have a big BBQ on the back of the boats, ( largest boat out there will host the card game)
I am leaving for San Clemente on July 5th, immediately after our meeting. I should arrive at Pyramid around 4 AM on Wednesday morning. I will be fishing, relaxing, Kayaking and exploring on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Saturday at 6:00 am I will start fishing for the Bass release tournament and if I catch a decent bass I will run in for the 5pm weigh in. If I don't, I may stay another night and return on Sunday.
I will listen to channel 65 and will either be in Pyramid or Fish Hook.

Yellowtail Shootout
Bloodydecks | |
Bloodydecks is holding their Yellowtail shootout this weekend out of Mission Bay. You still have time to sigh up. You can enter on-line or in person at the Captains meeting at Dana Landing, Mission Bay.
Hopefully an Oceanside Angler Club member wins this event and brings home the prize.
