Benefits of coffee. Two recently published studies showed that the antioxidants in coffee have anti-cancer benefits. The first showed that there are less skin cancers in coffee drinkers. The second study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and revealed a link between coffee drinkers and a 16% lower risk of prostate cancer. .....read more |
Nutritional tests reveal major vitamin D and Omega 3 deficiencies in UK. Results of the first cohort of people who have bought nutritional test have been summarised for a presentation in the National Cancer Research Conference Liverpool 2011. There is a strikingly high percentage of vitamin D levels below the optimal range (75 nmol/l). Likewise over 97% have been classed as omega 3 deficient. Dangers of talc for women. A recently published study involved more than 2,000 women with ovarian cancer and a similar number of women without the cancer. They found that regular users of talc had a 30% higher risk of ovarian cancer.

Dog can sniff out lung cancer. Dogs were trained on test tubes containing breath samples of 220 patients, and were able to correctly find 71 out of 100 patients who had lung cancer. The study, published in the European Respiratory journal reports that cancer cells may produce chemical compounds that circulate throughout the body and can be breathed out and more work is needed to identify what exactly the dogs are smelling.

Power walking not strolling helps prevent prostate cancer relapse. A study published in Cancer Research involving 1,455 men treated for prostate cancer showed that those who walked for >3 hours a week had a 57% lower relapse rate. Strolling ( <3 miles/hr), however, had no benefit - only those walking briskly (power walking) showed the benefit
