Greetings!
Great unit programming begins with advanced planning, but sometimes opportunities arise that are just too good to pass on and you need to act very quickly. We have three such programs to share that apply to all our families ...
Take a 5K Walk With The Scouts
Even before it became a household term, the Boy Scouts of America was combating childhood obesity. Helping our Scouts achieve physical fitness is a fundamental part of the Scouting program. And so it's fitting that our Council is taking a step (pun intended) by showing the community what we are all about with our first ever Walk-a-Thon To Fight Childhood Obesity on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, November 6. This is even a great way to get started on your own personal ScoutSTRONG award.
Talk Sports With Dan Patrick & Craig Breslow
Come meet Trumbull native Craig Breslow, a relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and Dan Patrick, father of an Eagle Scout, host of "The Dan Patrick Show" and NBC Sunday Night Football at the Scouting Family Sports Banquet on Friday, November 4. Enjoy a pasta dinner, listen to stories from Craig and Dan, ask questions and have a chance to win a 2010 UCONN Men's basketball, autographed by the entire team including Kemba Walker. Don't delay in sending in your reservation as space is limited.
Watch the Rutgers/Army Football Game at Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees are offering an incredible deal for Scouts to attend the Rutgers vs. Army game on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Scouts receive $15 off the advance ticket price -- only $20 per ticket -- to the game and receive a commemorative patch. They've set up a special portal just for Scouts to register and participate.
We are fortunate that due largely to your support of the Trail's End popcorn sale and Friends of Scouting, we are able to continue to offer some incredible opportunities to our Scouting families. Stay up to date with these and many other programs by visiting our website at www.ctyankee.org

Sell Popcorn & Support Scouting
The Connecticut Yankee Council's annual Popcorn Sale is well under way with over 195 of our packs, troops crews and posts selling. What are you waiting for? If your unit isn't participating in the sale, you're missing out on some great revenue. Contact Staff Adviser Jonathan Pleva today for more information.
Popcorn Sales Tip
Veterans Day is coming up in just a few weeks. Individuals can purchase popcorn to be shipped to our servicemen and women overseas. A well placed article in the local weekly newspaper showing how Scouts are supporting our troops overseas can go a long way toward making great Scouting programs happen at home.

Plus any new Scouts joining from June 1st to October 21st receive a free ticket and will appear on the ice before the game. Tickets are only $10 each!!! Wood Badge Fellowship Dinner & Auction
The Wood Badge Fellowship Dinner is Sunday, November 6 at Grassy Hill Lodge in Derby. This annual gathering brings together Wood Badge alumni and participants for an afternoon of fellowship, friendship and great food. The dinner also supports the Council's Wood Badge scholarship fund which helps make Scouting's premier adult leadership training course affordable to all leaders. A key part of the fundraising is the silent auction and we are looking for auction items. If you have anything of value to fellow Wood Badgers that you would like to donate, please contact Ray Moncevicius at romaldasm@aol.com.

Enhance your Cub Scouting Skills at Pow Wow!
Cub Scout leaders -- mark your calendars now for Saturday, December 3 to attend the Cub Scout Pow Wow at Harborside Middle School in Milford. Pow Wow is for Cub Scout leaders of all levels from brand new parents who were the last ones to step backward to the experienced, veteran, been-around-the-block Scouters. Choose from over 35 different skill-specific classes on everything from planning a Blue & Gold, to learning new and innovative arts & crafts projects. There's even a pig roast.
The Pow Wow features a special guest: Larry Pritchard, the Director of the BSA National Jamboree 2013 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scouting Reserve in West Virginia. Come get the inside scoop on all that is going on at the BSA's newest adventure base on the East Coast.

BSA Announces Partnership with Bookshare
While the BSA has fulfilled requests for different publications in braille or large print for years, the national office recently entered an agreement with the company Bookshare to provide the merit badge series as well as other manuals to youth, parents, and leaders with qualified print disabilities. Through the Bookshare in Scouting program, up-to-date Scouting material can be read on laptops or desktop computers; Apple iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches; MP3 players; and other devices.
Beginning this month, more than 35 different publications are available through Bookshare's online library, and additional publications will be added in three phases over the next six to nine months. Membership is free for U.S. students of any age with qualified print disabilities, and the $25 setup fee is waived for nonstudents when you use the promo code SCOUTS.
