Greetings!
The Connecticut Yankee Council is proud to boast two of the northeast's finest summer camp facilities at Camp Sequassen and Deer Lake Scout Reservation. Year after year feedback from leaders and parents is strong and positive. It's certainly a tribute to the facilities themselves, but it is directly related to the strength, energy and talent of our staff. If you or your son are at Camp Sequassen, be sure to take a moment to thank Ranger Dave for all that he does to keep the camp in great shape year round for all our Scouts and troops to use.
No one understands the lasting impact of summer camp better than Camp Sequassen's very own Dr. Larry Pisani, now in his 76th consecutive year at Sequassen as a camper or staff member. On Saturday, July 16 from 2 to 5 p.m., the Connecticut Yankee Council is proud and pleased to formally dedicate the "Pisani Pavilion" in the Pines at Camp Sequassen. This beautiful pavilion will serve as a program area, meeting space or just simply a cool place to watch Scouts in action. We hope you'll be able to join us on July 16 in paying tribute to Dr. Pisani's legacy at Camp Sequassen.

Get Pumped For Popcorn at Kickoff
It feels like it's hot enough to pop a kernel of popcorn outside which means it must be time to mark your calendars for the annual Trail's End Popcorn Kickoff on Thursday, August 18 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Road in Trumbull. Units sending at least one representative can earn an additional 3 percent commission from their popcorn sales. Whether your unit sells popcorn year after year, or is just considering getting in on the incredible sales potential, this is one event you truly can't afford to miss. RSVP to Jon Pleva at jon.pleva@scouting.org to save your spot. The Kickoff begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and 7 p.m. program.

Can We Borrow Your Camper?
Cub Scout Resident Camp is in need of three campers or RV's to house the Camp Director, Commissioner and Nurse at Deer Lake in August. We need to borrow these from August 1 to August 22 to supplement sleeping arrangements at Deer Lake. Please contact Ed Beatty at edbeatty32@hotmail.com or (203) 915-9675 if you can help.

World's Largest Scout Gathering Coming This Fall
While the world Scout jamboree is underway in Sweden this month, the world's largest Scouting event will happen the weekend of October 15-16 at an amateur radio station near you. The 54th Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) is expected to top last year's attendance, which had just over 700,000 Scout participants from nearly 6,000 stations around the world.
Now is the time to include JOTA in your fall planning to ensure your Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers are able to participate.

Earn the National Summertime Pack Award This Year
Just as Cub Scouts can earn individual awards for themselves, they can also work together to earn awards for their whole den or their pack. Getting together to work on these awards is a great way to practice teamwork and to show every Cub Scout how important he is as a member of his den or pack.
A pack can earn the National Summertime Pack Award by doing three pack activities when school is out for the summer -- one activity each in June, July and August. Packs that qualify earn a colorful streamer for their pack flag. Dens that have at least half of their members at three summer pack activities can earn a den ribbon. Pack members who take part in all three events are eligible for the National Summertime Pack Award pin, to wear on the right pocket flap of their uniform.
