Jamboree - There's ANOTHER App for that!
|
Thanks to the support of the conference Diamond Sponsor, Ancestry.com, Jamboree will again offer a mobile app for the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, which will be held June 8-10, 2012 in Burbank, California.

Last year's App was a big hit among attendees, exhibitors and speakers. "The 2011 Jamboree app introduced a completely new aspect to genealogy conferences. It provided advanced communication and scheduling capabilities and added to the overall experience," explained Leo Myers, Jamboree chair. "We were honored that other conferences followed Jamboree's lead and rolled out their own apps."

The Scanners are Coming!
Southern California Genealogy Jamboree registered attendees can sign up for FREE 30-minute scanning sessions on Friday, June 8, through Sunday, June 10, to be held during the exhibit hall hours.
This is especially exciting for us because it's the only time this year, other than NGS in Cincinnati, that scanning is planned at a conference. Scanning was offered in 2010, and it turned out to be one of the most popular aspects of Jamboree that year! You won't want to miss this opportunity.
Sign up for the scanning here.
You'll want to plan ahead to learn what kinds of documents and photos can be scanned. You'll also need to know how the process will go once you're at the Marriott. You can read more about it.

Streamed Video Sessions at Jamboree
On Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, Jamboree will offer free live-streamed sessions so family historians around the globe can benefit from the knowledge and expertise of our speakers.
After Jamboree, SCGS members will be able to view many Jamboree sessions through the digital archive on the SCGS website.
Speakers will determine which of their sessions may be archived, which may be recorded for purchase, and which may be live streamed.
The original live streamed broadcast will be available to the public at no charge. At no charge to the viewer, that is. SCGS incurs significant cost in delivering these sessions, from paying the speakers, the camera and video crew, bandwidth, and other technology magic tricks.
We are counting on viewer participation to offset the costs, either by purchasing a membership or through donations that are gratefully accepted through the SCGS website.
The full schedule of streamed sessions will be announced in May.
Sign up here to be sure that you receive the final schedule of streamed sessions. You will be contacted again and instructed to sign up for the session(s) you wish you attend. Each session will hold only 500 viewers, so don't miss your chance.

Maybe you spent Saturday afternoons perched in the balcony watching serials. Relive those days at our reception. Think red carpet, paparazzi, lights, Hollywood glitz and glamor. Tiaras are welcome but not required. Honored guests for the Hollywood GALA are silent movie actress Carla Laemmle, niece of Universal Studios founder Carl Laemmle, and child movie star Margaret O'Brien. Our guests will be signing autographs, with funds donated to their favorite charities. It will be a night of fun! Stop by the photo booth which is sponsored by Family Tree DNA. You'll have a souvenir of the evening. You can have your photo taken alone, with a new cousin you've met, other members of your society, or your favorite genealogy rock star. Volunteers Still Needed
| |
As you can imagine, Jamboree takes hundreds of volunteer hours during the weekend of June 7th through June 10th. From room monitors to hospitality team members, from registration to data entry typists, we have roles open for everyone. You don't need to be an SCGS member and you don't need to volunteer for long shifts.
Raise your hand by clicking on the graphic. You'll learn more about the opportunities and tell us how to get in touch with you. You'll be glad you did!

Although gas prices have relented somewhat, we know that you may want to carpool to Jamboree. A group has been set up at RideBuzz.org to facilitate carpools. Think of alternative ways of travel, too. Get creative. Think about taking the train. Organize a bus trip with other members of your society.
If you are arriving by air into the Burbank Airport, the Marriott shuttle will pick you up. If you are arriving by train at the Burbank station, please call the Marriott at 818-843-6000 to request a pick-up.
One more piece of good news. We know that parking at the Marriott is a challenge. The Marriott has collaborated with the airport to provide for overflow parking. More information, including maps, will be available closer to Jamboree.
