SCGS News
Open House You are invited to join us at our open house on Saturday, July 10, 2010, from 11am to 3pm. Tour the library, meet many of our volunteers and members of the Board of Directors, and join us for light refreshments.
New Microfilm Equipment We are very close to raising enough money to purchase a new system for digital scanning of microfilm! We're so close, in fact, that following a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors, Jay Holladay, our IT team leader, is moving forward on the purchase. He anticipates that the new equipment will arrive and be installed in early July.
With this new equipment, our library patrons can view their films and scan a digital image directly to a thumb drive. "I can't wait for the equipment to be available. It will be so much more convenient for our patrons," commented Joan Phillips, SCGS Board member who oversees the LDS microfilm rental project for the Society.
We are so close to the purchase of the first machine that we have begun working toward the purchase of a second scanner. If you would like to support this effort, you can donate online, or you can use the form below and designate your donation for the
"Microfilm/Microfiche Scanner purchase."
Library Hours During Jamboree Weekend The SCGS Library will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Jamboree weekend, June 11-13. Based on past experience, you can expect to see a moderate level of chaos if you happen to visit on Thursday, June 10th. The library will be closed, as usual, on Monday.
The Searcher The spring issue of The Searcher can be found in the registration packet at Jamboree. For those of you who are not attending the event, your Searcher will be delivered around the first of July. Alice and her team have done an excellent job of producing the journal, and they deserve a hearty thanks. Let her know what you think of the July issue - drop her a note at AliceFairhurst@gmail.com.

Jamboree Update
Down to the Wire We're down to the wire on advance registrations. After midnight tonight, June 1, preregistration will close and the registration team will begin printing name tags and stuffing ticket envelopes. It's one of the last big jobs of Jamboree and it's a very important one. When you see Louise and Peggy, be sure to give them a well-deserved pat on the back for all of their hard work.
Walk-in registration is available. Three-day registration is available for $120. One-day registrations are $65 for Friday and Sunday and $70 for Saturday.

Ancestry to Provide FREE Scanning at Jamboree
Bring your photos and documents to Jamboree, and Ancestry will scan them at no cost. You'll get the digital images returned to you on a thumb drive provided by Ancestry. You need to preregister to let Ancestry know that you want to participate, and then you'll need to register again at Jamboree to get a time slot. Get all the details for preparing your documents and click on the link at the bottom of the page to preregister for scanning.
