I mentioned possibly offering Pinup Syndicate Members the option to get Retro Lovely branded business cards with a notion they would assist you in networking with businesses and locations or getting you press passes at events. Thinking on this further another idea has gained some traction and I'd like input on it. What if instead I were to offer / provide I.D. Badges? Like a photo ID that had your image and info, and showed you as a Retro Lovely Contributing Photographer? It would have a webpage link that would also list you / show your snapshot and could provide the sort of extra credibility that would assist you should you endeavor to try to network with that local classic looking diner / movie house / garage / antique store / B&B with regards to using their place as a setting for a shoot.
Are going to go up. But anyone who did advertise in issue #1 can always have current rates, whatever size they want. I didn't spell this out originally but if you gave me a referral and it became an advertiser, and you got the 20% commission on that and that party takes space again, or more space.... you will earn 20% on that account each time they run something, not just this first time. If some of you have people you think should advertise but haven't, let me know and I'll extend the current rates to them into issue#2.
Staging for issue #2 will begin by April 1st. I plan on setting up a page to try to better organize the process. More on that later.
This process of getting issue #1 together has prompted me to think of things as a photographer. Like as I worked on some pages... I found myself wishing the format of our cameras was more 4x5 like in cropping... some images were so gorgeous I wanted them to fill the page... but to fill side to side meant cropping off the top and bottom....and some images that just wouldn't work... so they either had to be fit in with a border, or in some cases I crafted backgrounds with some element out of a shot... and it had me think - as you do new shoots... maybe you're working someplace like a diner, and they have these cool retro counters... in addition to shooting the model... take 10 seconds and shoot that counter head on, or the stainless steel panels... or the tile floor... or a close up of the shag rug or satin drapes... grab me a few layout component shots and we'll be fast fast friends....
OK ENOUGH, WE ARE SO CLOSE AND THIS IS LOOKING SO GOOD AND ALREADY DOING SO WELL I SIMPLY HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS!
