Tasting and Touring Michigan's Homegrown Food: A Culinary Road Trip

Gifted storyteller Jaye Beeler and award-winning photographer Dianne Carroll Burdick invite you to buckle up for "Tasting and Touring Michigan's Homegrown Food: A Culinary Roadtrip."

Chronicling Michigan's amazing agricultural landscape, its roads dotted with farm stands, hay bales, pastured animals and working barns, Jaye and Dianne will introduce you to a sampling of enterprising women tastemakers of Michigan-- farmers, herdswomen, cheese-makers, small-batch producers, bakers and culinarians. At the same time they squash myths that only men are farmers, these women expand the definition of the profession! Perhaps Laurie Arboreal of Bangor's Eaters Guild says it best: "I am forever trying to squash the stereotype that the man does the farming. I, too, am in the field, making deliveries, and selling stores and farmers markets."

On Thursday, visit a whole new world of food integrity and meet some of the women who produce our food!

Trained at the University of Kentucky, Jaye Beeler has worked in newsrooms in Arizona, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan, where she was food editor and restaurant reviewer at The Grand Rapids Press for ten years.

Dianne Carroll Burdick is a free-lance photographer and instructor at GRCC and Kendall College. Her clients ranging USA Today to Opera Grand Rapids, Dianne has had work in over fifty art exhibitions and in six books.
