100 Years of Food Politics

The battle began in 1912, and the soldiers were Grand Rapids women. Read about it in the Rapidian!  (Thanks to citizen journalist Sharon Hanks!)

Farmers Market

7:00pm, Today, March 8th, 2012

Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum

Join us tomorrow to learn how Grand Rapids women led the fight for affordable and healthy food 100 years ago. Farmers markets were finally instituted in Grand Rapids, and the Fulton Street Farmers Market has been with us now for 90 years.

Celebrate its birthday and the civic engagement of these women without the vote. Activist Eva McCall Hamilton reinvested her local experience in the Michigan senate in 1920 as the first woman in the state to serve. Join us Thursday for a great story!

Co-sponsored with the Grand Rapids Historical Society & Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Reception following. Free & Open to the Public.

MORE ON THE FARMERS MARKET TODAY

Today the Fulton Street Farmers Market draws more than 10,000 patrons per week and has plans to construct a year-round building. Development Project Manager Christine Helms-Maletic will attend Otto's program tomorrow and be available to answer questions: http://www.ggrwhc.org/pdfs/Fulton_Street_Farmers_Market.pdf
