Greetings!
Schools around the country are back in session and the Labor Day holiday is our last opportunity to languish on a lazy summer afternoon. Then, it's back to school and work as we look forward to fall and the excitement of sporting events and so much more. This month's Mini Times has a bit of a learning curve, with some really great how-to projects, a delightful investigation of miniature books and a mini-trip to England to visit The Load of Mischief Pub. Our featured video introduces you to Pete Acquisto, master miniature metal smith, whose works in gold and silver are truly masterpieces. Special thanks to Lynn Jensen and Leslie Hopwood of NAME for the NAME updates and information. They represent the enduring NAME traditions of sharing and learning that we appreciate so much. The Mini Time Machine celebrates its 3rd anniversary this weekend with free admission on Saturday. We look back in amazement at what we've accomplished and thank you all for being there to share it with the world.

Minis Magnified

Minis Magnified is a monthly in-depth look at one of the miniatures in our collection written by our very own Museum Services Manager, Emily Wolverton. This month, we will look at The Load of Mischief Pub.
"Those interested in human history can revel in the miniature's ability to create a time capsule; a well-made roombox or dollhouse can convey not only period furniture and accessories, but also the social hierarchy and customs of a group of people." Click here to read the rest of this article.

Retirement Accounts Offer Charitable Solutions

If you are considering donating a retirement asset, like an IRA, during your lifetime, remember that the amount will be treated as a distribution from your retirement account and consequently as taxable income to you in the year in which it is given. Instead of gifting a retirement account during your lifetime, you might consider designating the museum as the beneficiary of your retirement account. The museum would receive the distribution of any unused retirement benefits at the time of your death and your estate would receive a deduction for the amount of the gift, offsetting estate taxes on the gift portion of your retirement income.
Thank you!
