February 2012 issue no. 4 |
Greetings!
Welcome to the February edition of The Mini Times. Our hearts are filled this month with happiness and inspiration. We hope that you savored an especially sweet Valentine's Day and that the memories are still fresh as you explore this month's issue.
From the elaborately romantic Chateau Meno by Charlotte Shoenbach, to a miniature heart box how-to, we're in the spirit of love. Our enduring affection for star miniaturist Brooke Tucker plays out in this month's video interview on a wonderful form of art.
With Leslie Hopwood's expert assistance, NAME shares a terrific photo essay journaling the elements and aspects of a very successful miniature show held recently in San Diego. And after reading NAME's Tips and Tricks I'll never be without a pad of sticky notes again!
Share miniatures, share love,
Nina Daldrup
Executive Director, The Mini Time Machine Museum

Minis Magnified

Minis Magnified is a monthly in-depth look at one of the miniatures in our collection written by our very own Museum Services Manager, Emily Wolverton. This month, we will look at Chateau Meno.
"Sometimes, I put myself to sleep at night, dreaming what it would be like to live inside it, you know? Sometimes I wish I could make myself small and climb inside." Click here to read the rest of this article.

Sustaining our Future: Window of Opportunity

Several economic and tax code reforms discussed and subsequently tabled in 2011 have created a window of opportunity for charitable giving in 2012 that may not be seen again for several decades. If you have thought about making gift distributions to family members and/or to your favorite charities, you may find that opportunities for making significant gifts this year can be structured by a qualified estate planner to benefit both your family and charitable interests, while possibly providing an income to you in your retirement.
Life estates, charitable lead trusts and gift annuities are planned giving instruments that can provide additional income while protecting assets during your lifetime. By choosing this kind of giving instrument it can be possible to make major gifts to a worthy charity while transferring assets free of tax.
Changes in tax laws are certain to happen in 2013. Please consider evaluating the great reasons for donors to act this year to make their gifts while valuable tax incentives remain in place, and speak to a trusted advisor about what is most important to you.
Thank you!
