Tips for Reducing Stress at Work

While some workplace stress is normal, excessive stress can interfere with your productivity and impact your physical and emotional health. And your ability to deal with it can mean the difference between success or failure.

There are a variety of steps you can take to reduce both your overall stress levels and the stress you find on the job and in the workplace. These include:

  • Taking responsibility for improving your physical and emotional well-being.
  • Avoiding pitfalls by identifying knee jerk habits and negative attitudes that add to the stress you experience at work.
  • Learning better communication skills to ease and improve your relationships with management and coworkers.

Successful Grand Opening
Creek Travel Plaza Grand Opening was a Memorable Event!

We had a great turnout for the official grand opening celebration at
the new Creek Travel Plaza.  Hundreds came out to see the #22 NASCAR and to prove their driving skills on the NASCAR Simulator Ride.  At the event CIEDA staff members were working hard as they registered guests for prizes, took pictures, and greeted guests. The event was well attended and we thank everyone who came out to enjoy the event and extend a special thank you to the staff members who tirelessly worked the event.  It would not have been as successful without everyone's dedication, support and hard work.

Project Updates

Wind Creek Wetumpka

CIEDA offices along Main Street have been set up and are in operation. Demolition of the River Oaks Apartment Complex, relocation of the Smoke Shop and the construction of the employee parking lot on Love Lane are complete. The permit for the construction of the garage has been received by the contractor and Ard Construction has installed the test piles. The contractor has issued bid packages for the MEP in the garage and bids are being reviewed. Pile operations have started for the hotel tower. The Contractor has taken bids for the structural steel, the foundations and slab-on-grade and the structural concrete work for the tower. They have also taken proposals for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing and are currently analyzing these proposals. The Architect has issued the 100% Design Development Documents and will schedule a final DD presentation to the Tribal Council for some time in September. The contractor has begun to develop the GMP based on these documents. The contractor is working towards finalizing the GMP by the end of September. The preliminary schedule continues to indicate the opening of the Casino in late November, 2013 with the Hotel completion around February 1st of 2014.

Creek Casino Montgomery Gaming Floor Expansion

PCI Gaming has determined that they need to expand the game floor at CCM with the addition of approximately 21,000 square feet of gaming area and a small budget hotel. Wind Clan Anderson, Joint Venture has been selected as the General Contractor for Phase 1 and they have begun to develop a GMP for this work. Work should commence the first week in October and we anticipate the floor being open for business by mid-January.

Creek Casino Montgomery Parking Lot Expansion & Sewer Improvements

CCM Parking Lot Expansion

Martin Construction is installing the asphalt surface course. Curb and gutter, stone base, and asphalt paving are being competed at the entrances. Sidewalks and crosswalks are being poured. The contractor is backfilling behind curbs and finishing grading landscape areas. Irrigation systems are being installed and trees are being planted. The lift station valve box is now installed. The project should be completed by the end of this month.

CCM Sewer Improvements & Force Main

The Contract and the Notice to Proceed have been delivered to the contractor, S. Rolin, Inc. Work activities will be scheduled with on-site PCIG personnel to minimize impact on gaming operations. Work is scheduled to be completed in Dec. 2012.

Exit 54 Travel Plaza

The ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, 9/1/12, and the Grand Opening was held on Monday, 9/3/12. Participants and attendees seemed to be pleased with the building and grounds. Staff and employees seem to be settling in and getting comfortable with the operating systems. The contractor, S. Rolin, Inc., is working on the remaining punch list work and should have it completed soon.

Ashland Avenue Project

Brown Construction of Pensacola, Florida was subcontracted by White Spunner and is making progress on the replacement of the force main and laterals. ECUA and third party inspectors are on hand to inspect the installations and test soil compaction as the work progresses. The anticipated completion date of this process is set for late September, but rain is hampering the work as compaction is hard to achieve in wet conditions. Upon completion of the newly installed work, ECUA, along with Geci Engineering, will formulate a final punch list for completion and final project close out.

Poarch Assisted Living Center & Poarch Health Clinic (Steve)

Assisted Living & Health Clinic Buildings

The contractor, S-Rolin - White-Spunner Construction, Inc. a Joint Venture, continues to perform grading and excavating for roadways and building pads. Fill material is being placed and compacted in the ALF building pad.  The Architect, Sherlock, Smith and Adams, Inc., has issued structural steel drawings for the HC building. Structural steel bid packages are being issued for bids on both buildings. Meanwhile the contractor is working towards having a GMP established. The current schedule is for the ALF to be completed in Oct. or Nov. of 2013, and the HC in Nov. or Dec. of 2013.

Martin Road Improvements

The project is on hold pending BIA funding and approval. BIA has requested PSE Certification by the Engineer of Record. Martin Construction is still waiting in the wings for the contract and notice to proceed to be reissued.

Entertainment District Project

Entertainment District Building

Parkes, the contractor for this project, began mobilization on Monday, August 27, 2012.  Job trailer and construction fence set up will be the initial action items to begin with, and once a contractor is awarded, the demolition phase of  this process will begin. Bids for the site work have been received and are being reviewed by the contractor and CIEDA management. The Architect for the Project (ARTECH) forwarded 95 % GMP drawings for the project to allow the contractor the opportunity to review and provide more up- to- date pricing.

A pre-construction meeting was held with Casino Management and the Contractors Superintendent to discuss site concerns and introduce each party to the superintendent. Both a temporary and after construction life safety plan were introduced by HBG (the original life safety designer for the casino) for review by all parties. A meeting was held with both casino management and the Tribal Fire Department to discuss the plans and was accepted by each. Some exit and egress work will need to be done to facilitate the plan.

Phase I Parking Lot Expansion

S. Rolin Inc.'s subcontractor, Roads, Inc., has completed the asphalt paving work. Irrigation systems are being tested and landscaping and grassing work has begun. Weather permitting, this phase of the project should be completed this month.

MBWR Lake Expansion

CIEDA has received notice back from the CORPS that no permit will be required. CIEDA will move forward with the excavation of the lake in September 2012.
