Salem's Outstanding Young Professional of the Year
 The First Citizen Awards Banquet, hosted by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce recently honored Janet Taylor as Salem's first citizen and several local leaders. Among them was Lucy Escobar, a branch manager for Key Bank, recognized as the 2012 Outstanding Young Professional. Lucy is a community service "first responder" and currently serves on the City of Salem Human Rights and Relations Advisory Commission. She is also a member of MERIT's Latino Business Advisory Committee. Congratulations Lucy!!

The Oregon Native American Business & Entrepreneurial Network (ONABEN) has announced their 10th Annual Conference & Trade Show to be April 19 - 20th in Portland. Among those who should attend are entrepreneurs (young and old), small business owners, economic development professionals, business development professionals and elected leaders. Safety Fest provides a comprehensive one-day venue where business owners, employees, managers and human resource professionals can acquire safety information and receive certificates of completion. A Native American Journey Into Business - This intensive 10-week class guides students through a cultural experience providing the framework for successful business start-up and culminating in a written business plan.
Culturally relevant coursework over ten sessions:
- Story-based illustrations of business principles
- Hands-on exercises and exercise pull-outs
- Photos of Native American entrepreneurs and their businesses
 - Native-inspired graphics
- Used by Tribal Economic Development departments, Vocational Rehabilitation programs and Tribal Colleges alike

The Small Business Management Program (SBM) has been helping business owners succeed for more than thirty years.

Project Space
Salem Art Association seeks artists to participate in Project Space, a dynamic temporary art venue in downtown Salem and in Bush's Pasture Park that offers juried exhibits by regional artists, studio space, temporary outdoor sculpture as well as performances and other events that encourage community dialogue. "Work in Progress" is the theme, designed to bring out the experimental, creative and unexpected. Artists working in any media are invited to participate in the program. Exhibits will rotate two to four times over a two month period starting June 15 and ending August 15.
