Hot Home Products: How to cool your space this summer

Funny that when the sultry summer days we long for in February finally arrive, many of us promptly turn on a central air conditioner to cool things down. That's not been an option for those in homes without the ductwork needed to deliver cooled air from a central unit. Those overheated souls have often made do with noisy, bulky window units, which also offer easy access to thieves, or invested in space-hogging portable floor models that cool limited areas.

That's changed, however, with the arrival of ductless systems. "These are a great option for those who don't have ductwork, or who use in-floor heating or a boiler," says Tom Keough, co-owner of the Markham-based Comfort Connections, which distributes ductless systems made by Japanese HVAC manufacturer Daikin.

Best bike stores in TO

The best bike stores in Toronto show considerable diversity in their areas of specialty. From the humble repair-focused shop to places that deal almost exclusively in race-ready road bikes, Toronto's got it. In fact, for a city that often appears to struggle to be bike-friendly, there's actually an embarrassment of riches when it comes to retail outlets.

If it's possible to break these stores into categories, there are four main types of bike shops that we have in rather plentiful supply: those that cater to commuter/utility cyclists, those that focus on repairs and the used bike market, high-end specialty boutiques, and the bigger stores that pretty much do it all.

Case Study

We originally started our search primarily focused on lofts, and although we fell in love with the Robert Watson lofts, we kept our eye on market and looked through MLS listings daily however nothing was turning up.

When we first started working with Shawn, we expanded our search to include smaller houses that had been reno'd. However we were finding it tough to find places that had everything we wanted at the price point we could afford.
