Chic for less: Decorating on a budget

Decorating isn't just for those with big wallets. If a small budget has you second-guessing your reno wishlist, check out these tips for updating your space while minding the bottom line.

Splurge on Investment Pieces, and Save on the Rest

When it comes to big-ticket items like the living room sofa and appliances, it's about quality not quantity. Buy the best that you can afford, but try to time your purchase with sales. Shop around, find what you want and then wait for the discounts to roll in. Aim for a classic look that will never fall out of style, and save passing trends for accessories like linens and throws.

Why should I insure my mortgage?

Your home is likely the largest one-time investment that you will ever make.  What would happen to your family if you suffered a major disability or an untimely death?

Why should I have an individual policy instead of what the bank offered me?

Your home likely is the biggest investment you have made and carrying a mortgage on it means that you may have long-term debt [20 - 35 years]. If something happened to you, what would happen to your family?  Would they have to move out and sell the house because they couldn't afford the mortgage payments without your income?

Case Study

I have worked with Elli Davis twice previous to this transaction. She introduced me to Shawn and immediately Shawn started sending me listings. I narrowed down my search to the downtown area and came across the Major Street home. Shawn immediately lined up a showing which brought me back from Paris a week earlier and he had established good contact with the selling agent of this home to try and keep it available until I got home.

I had been living in a 200 year old home in Niagara and this Major Street home is a lovely old house that has a similar feel as my home in Niagara. It has parking and is close to the subway. It's half the size of my home in Niagara but it's a wonderful home from which I will once again can enjoy living in Toronto.  I'm so glad to be back.

Shawn is an excellent agent and his best quality is his customer service. At times, I felt that I was the most important focus in his life.  Now I know it's not true, but can you think of a better quality from a real estate agent?  I can't.

Shawn exemplifies the quality of service and knowledge of this great group of real estate agents.  I don't know why anyone buying or selling their home would look anywhere else for a real estate agent in Toronto.
