Using Click-On Links
Sometimes when you use a click-on link in the newsletter, it may seem that it is not coming up. I have found that there is sometimes a delay. This can be frustrating, but try being patient and wait a bit. It usually does come up.

Francheskaa
"The movement of color turns, lifts and travels across the surface. The shapes flow or lie still against the contrast of light and dark patterns. The overlays of textures form a figuration of balance. The emphasis of contrast arouses excitement. There is a unity, a communion present. My paintings have life. They lift. They energize. They surprise the human heart."
Francheskaa, one of CASA's own, uses her artist statement not only to define her work but to also define composition and design by using the elements of unity, balance, movement, rhythm, a focal point, contrast, pattern and proportion. As a teacher it is her intent to make her students aware of these elements and incorporate them into every piece of art that they create. Strong work incorporates all these elements into each chosen composition. Abstraction is not random and uses the same compositions as representational work. It is her goal to make us aware of some of the many compositions that are available to us as artists and how to use the design elements to increase the strength of our work.
A former teacher in both the Nevada and California school systems, she continues to pursue teaching adults in both Arizona and Nevada. She supports the arts community in Tucson by her membership in many art organizations. As an exhibiting artist she continues to have her work represented in many juried art shows recently including Mesquite Gallery and Sole in Tubac, Toscana and Contents Interiors in Tucson and at the Northwestern Financial Network, a two woman show in Tucson.
We are glad that she is a part of our family and look forward to her sharing her expertise.

Opportunity Knocks
There is an opening for one or two people to become helpers for the program chairperson, Nancy Norton. This job would include helping to set up the room for whatever presentation is planned for the meeting. There is a lot to do in getting ready for a monthly meeting and extra hands and others with the knowledge of what needs to be done is essential to a smooth operation. Please let Marti or Nancy know if you would be willing to help in this way.

The Circle of Book Clubs and The Humane Society will be hosting a book and art event on December 2, 2012 to benefit both the Pima Library Foundation and the Humane Society. Dr. Kristin Nelson, a Scottsdale veterinarian will be presenting her book - Coated With Fur. We will also have a silent auction of animal inspired art. (art may be two or three dimensional, in any medium or combination of mediums, and animal inspired is extended to birds and fish - so any work with feathers, fins and gills will be welcomed. We hope that members of CASA will generously support this event by donating originals or prints of original artwork for the auction. The Circle's book events are typically held at beautiful private homes and wine and light refreshments are served.
Artists who donate to the auction will be given a complimentary ticket.
I've asked Marti White to inform CASA members of our event. Please direct your questions to Rona Rosenberg at the Kirk-Bear Canyon Library,

Exhibit Opportunity at Tohono Chul Park Gallery
Dear Artist,
The crisp morning air in October has always been a sign that summer has begun to wane and the Tucson arts scene will begin to pick up momentum with the arrival of a new season. With a new year on the way, we are proud to announce our 2013 exhibit schedule, which can be viewed in it's entirety on our website. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding the upcoming exhibit schedule.
To kick off this exciting year of new exhibits, we are inviting artists from the Southwest region to submit work for Paper: From All Sides, opening on January 25, 2013 in the Park's Main Gallery:
We interact with paper constantly; reading the morning news, receiving a receipt from the purchase of lunch, reading a book in the evening, wrapping a gift, opening a card, cleaning a counter top, writing in a journal, getting a cup of coffee. Paper is so ubiquitous and intertwined with our lives, and especially for artists, this material can be a core component of the creative process, no matter what the discipline. This exhibit explores the divine qualities of this simple and unassuming entity in our daily lives.

Letter from the President
It is beginning to feel like fall and the CASA year is into its third month of activities. Seems like the days fly by between newsletters. Our first exhibit, the Signature Show at the Campus Christian Center, is going up on October 15. Thank you to those Signature members who participated in the show and to those who brought extra work so that we could fill the space and make a beautiful show. The reception will be a closing reception in December, so please go see the show before then and come back again to welcome our families and guests.
Lauren Robb gave a very informative talk at the October meeting on how to build your art career - valuable information about how to approach galleries and write artist's statements. She repeated again what many of our workshop presenters have mentioned, that having a body of work that is recognizable as your work is very important when you are seeking representation by a gallery.
Beginning to put your work out there for the public to see is one of the first steps in building your career. We can do that by entering local juried shows and then once that feels somewhat comfortable, make the step toward answering calls to artists from national shows. An easy way to move into that arena is to check out the online juried shows that are available. One great online gallery that gives you an opportunity to show your work to a much larger audience and is non-threatening and inexpensive is the Light, Space, Time Gallery. Search for them online at lightspacetime.com.
We will be jurying CASA exhibits at both the November and December meetings. Be sure to check the articles in this newsletter for the prospectuses for each of these shows. "The Artistry of Assemblage" - at Mesch, Clark and Rothschild Law Firm - will be juried at the November meeting. Lots of new and exciting work is being done by our members for this show. "Southwestern Impressions" - at Agua Caliente Ranch House Gallery - will be juried in December. The theme for this show can be broadly interpreted to include abstract and more representational mixed media work. So turn on your creative juices and go to work.
I want to welcome Ann Loud to the Board of Directors. When a vacancy in the secretary's slot came about, Ann stepped up to the plate and took on the job. Thank you, Ann, for making my job so much easier!
Also, the board approved inviting two new honorary members and a patron member: John Salgado and Kyle Johnston will be invited to become honorary members of CASA and Henry Sarnoff will be invited to become a patron member. We welcome these fine members of the art community into our group.
Marti White, President

Cleo Teissedre would love to have visitors or someone to take her to lunch on a Friday. Cleo's husband has Alzheimer's and needs constant attention. She is pretty much confined to home except on the days when she has a caregiver there to help her out for a few hours. Give her a call at 749-1691 and see if she can have a visitor for a bit or offer to take her to lunch when the hospice caregiver is there on a Friday. She misses her friends. |

"The Artistry of Assemblage"
CASA at Mesch, Clark and Rothschild Law Firm
Coming in January
CASA will be doing a three-dimensional show at Mesch, Clark and Rothschild to be hung in January. The jury date is November 2, at our regular CASA meeting at St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church. You will be able to submit two pieces - assemblage or other three-dimensional work. All work must hang on the wall. This show will hang for several months. Mesch, Clark and Rothschild is located at 259 N. Meyer Ave. in downtown Tucson. The space can accomodate some large pieces of work, so think big rather than small. We are hoping many of you will try something new if you have never worked in three-dimensions before. This should be a fun show!
