Greetings!

I hope this email finds you well and hope you're enjoying some summer sunshine and activities.

The big question everyone wants to know, (Including me) is when is the La Mesa studio opening. Well, I hope to get an occupancy permit by Wednesday the 8th, and then open a couple of days after that. Things are moving along, and I'm looking forward to seeing you there soon. We will have some free yoga weekends there for new students so if you have someone you know that would like to go please bring them to class with you. We will also have some special rates for those new students to Bikram yoga. I will send out an email when the studio is ready to open.

As of July 1st we will be operating under the new class times. In El Cajon, the 5:40 a.m. class will now start at 5:30a.m. and there will no longer be an 11:00 a.m. class on the weekends. We will still have 11:00 a.m. during the weekdays.

A BIG, BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Joseph Encinia and Miwa Yukari on there 1st place in the yoga competition. It was very inspiring to watch Joseph's performance but knowing him personally, which many of you do from him teaching here in El Cajon, it was more inspirational knowing that he has tried for this for numerous years and never lost his focus, determination, passion, or belief that he could do it. These are some of the things that we as Bikram Yoga Teachers hope for all of you, that you become your best and live to your full potential and live a long, healthy, prosperous and fullfilled life.

Our July 4th schedule in El Cajon is 2 classes only with Dave at 7:00 a.m  and 9:00 a.m.

Have a safe and fun 4th of July weekend!

Sincerely,
Anthony Burkart

July's Book of the Month: The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari

By: Robin Sharma

August's Book of the Month:  A Fine Balance

By: Rohinton Mistry

About the Book

With a compassionate realism and narrative sweep that recalls masters from Balzac to Dickens, this novel captures all the cruelty and corruption, dignity and heroism of India. Set in 1975 at a time when the government has declared a state of internal emergency, the story focuses on the lives of four unlikely people who find themselves living in the same humble flat in the city.

A widow whose refusal to marry has left her struggling to earn a living as a seamstress; two tailors, who come to the city searching for employment; and a student from a small hamlet in the Himalayan foothills, whose father has sent him to attend college.

Through the dramatic and often shocking turns their lives take, we get an intimate view, not only of their world, but also of India itself in all its extraordinary variety. As the characters move from distrust to friendship and from friendship to love,

A Fine Balance

creates an enduring panorama of the human spirit in an inhuman state.

Posture of the Month

Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

Dandayamana Bibhaktapada Paschimottanasana

Medical Benefits:

·         Cures and prevents sciatica by stretching and strengthening the sciatic nerves and the tendons of the legs

·         Helps the functioning of most of the internal abdominal organs, especially the small and large intestine

·         Improves the muscle tone and flexibility of thighs and calves and the flexibility of the pelvis, ankles, and hip joints, and of the last five vertebrae of the spine

·         Increases circulation to the brain, adrenal glands, liver and spleen

·         Centers nervous system

·         Good for depression and insomnia prevention or treatment, helps by stimulating a healthy pineal gland

·         Good for constipation

·         Helps with diabetes

·         Releases lower back

Tips

·         Use your strength to develop your flexibility. PULL!

·         The power you generate by pulling on your heels stretches the legs, hips, and spine.

·         Keep thighs tight and your knees locked.

·         If you can't grab your heels, grab anywhere underneath the outside edge of your feet. Turning the toes slightly inward may help.

·         Big exhales will relax your muscles more and more so that you can sink deep and comfortable in the posture.

·         The wider the stance the easier the stretch. If your forehead is touching the floor, shorten your step so you can stretch more.
