Greetings!

When you come to class try to remember that your body is the object that you are working through to help you to develop concentration. When you truly develop the ability to concentrate properly and add faith, patience and determination to it, and learn to harness all of that power you will break free of the bonds that hold you back from achieving your true potential in life.

When you leave the yoga room take all that yoga power with you and apply it in your life and all good things in life will be waiting for you.

Bikram yoga is a powerful class for your mind, body and spirit. It will help you attain your greatest and highest self.
Bikram never said it would be easy, he only said it would be worth it.

Learn to see only the eye.

Bikram Yoga for Kids YAY!!!

The following is an excerpt from Jason Smith's homework assignment describing an activity. Jason was 8 years old when he wrote these few lines.

"I am at the bikram yoga studio getting ready for class.  I can smell the bikram yoga studio and its really hot but you burn alot of calories in this yoga class.  I'm in the yoga room sweating.  I can hear everybody trying to stick those postures in the steaming hot room with between 104 and 109 degrees. I can feel that sweat dripping down my back onto the mat while i'm doing the postures. I can feel the water going down my shorts.

I am laying in savasana watching my mom do the Standing Head to Knee and still standing. WOW!!!.  Now I'm watching my mom do Bow.  She looks like a rain drop.  I am watching her do the Camel and she's putting her head to the floor. She does Rabbit Pose and her back is lifting.  Now the yoga class is over and I get out of the yoga room and get in the shower then i get out and my mom is still sitting with some people who just did the yoga and I told her to get in the shower then finally she gets in the shower. My mom and I are leaving the yoga studio then we get home I will pet my cats."

Bikram Yoga El Cajon & La Mesa encourage you to bring your children to anyone of our classes.  Anyone under 18 pays only $6.00 per class.
Posture of the Month
Dandayamana-Dhanurasana
Standing Bow Pulling Pose

Benefits:

·    Stimulates cardiovascular system

·    Increases circulation to heart and lungs

·   Transfers the circulation from one side of the body to the other, and then equalizes it-circulating fresh blood and oxygen to each internal organ and gland to keep them healthy

·    Helps regulate ovaries and prostate gland

·    Increases the size and elasticity of the rib cage and lungs

·     Opens diaphragm

·     Helps open the shoulder joints

·    Firms the abdominal wall and upper thighs, and tightens upper arms, hips, and buttocks

·     Reduces abdominal fat build up

·   Improves flexibility and strength of lower spine, and most of the body's muscles

·      Develops balance

·      Develops concentration, patience, and determination

Tips:

·   Do only as much as you can while keeping your standing knee locked

·   Use your body exactly like a bow being strung and drawn by an archer

·     If you are losing the balance, stretch forward more and kick back harder-tautening your bow will restore the balance

·      Look at one spot straight ahead

·      Try to use your whole leg in the kick

·      Let the power of the kick do the work

·    Don't think about balance-just concentrate on kicking back harder and the balance will take care of itself

·       Make it hurt a little in the back of your standing leg

·       Use 80/20 breathing

·   Never do the standing bow pulling pose with cold unprepared muscles

Book of the Month Club

May's Book:  Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Meeting Date: May 22, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.
June's Book: The Four Agreements & The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Luis
___________________________________

Due to the Easter Holiday, we had to reschedule the April Book Club meeting. This is why there are two meetings in one month. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The May Book of the Month is Dave's Choice Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.  Siddhartha, like the Alchemist is about a man's journey. Instead of pursing a personal legend, Siddhartha embarks on a spiritual journey to answer some of life's burning questions about the nature of his existence, knowledge, happiness and peace, and ultimately enlightenment.
Yoga & Studio Etiquette

Yoga Etiquette

The Front Row:

You should always practice your yoga at the front of the room and closer to the mirror, unless you are injured, sick or weak on a particular day. Practicing in the front row will help you concentrate better and improve your postures, with literally nothing between you and your yoga.

The back row and spots by the door should be reserved for new students or those who are not feeling 100% on any given day.

Studio Etiquette

Hand Towels

We do not provide hand towels. You are free to bring your own, and please take them back home with you along with your yoga costumes and other belongings.  There are too many items being left behind.  Lost & Found items are donated to the Goodwill every 4 weeks.

Yoga Etiquette Recap

1.  Don't leave the room to take showers during class.
2.  Place your mat on the line so that your mat is in the middle of the line.
3.  Be on time.
4.  If you leave the room, please leave and enter silently.
5.  Keep up the good work.
6. The back row and spots by the door should be reserved for new students or those who are not feeling 100% on any given day.

Studio Etiquette Recap
1. Please place your shoes neatly inside the cubby holes under the shoe bench at the reception area.  These shoe benches were custom made by Doug K with you specifically in mind.
2.  Please bring your own handtowels and take them home with you, with all other belongings.
