Protect Your Paycheck

You wouldn't dream of not insuring your home or your car.  What if your home burned down, or your car was totaled in an accident?  That's what insurance is for - to put you back where you were before the loss, to make you financially whole again. But what about protecting something many times more valuable than either of those?  Your paycheck.

What would happen if suddenly, due to an illness or accident, you were unable to work?  How long would you be able to make your mortgage and car payments without an incoming paycheck?  How many times could you go grocery shopping without the worry of having enough money?  If you are like most Americans, you couldn't make it much more than a month.  One in four Americans will have problems almost immediately.

This is where Disability Insurance comes in.  It insures your paycheck if you cannot work because of an illness or injury.  A basic Disability Insurance policy will cover your paycheck up to about 66% before taxes.  Supplemental Short-Term Disability Insurance is also available, which could make your weekly take-home payment equal to your normal paycheck.

Many people put off buying Disability Insurance because they don't think a disability could happen to them.   Statistics show that you have a roughly 3-in-10 chance of becoming disabled for 90 days or more before the age of 65.  You insure your homes and cars against unplanned damages - why wouldn't you do the same when it comes to your income?

As your insurance partner, The Gaudreau Group can assist you in securing Short-Term and Long-Term disability insurance for yourself or providing it to your staff.  Call one of our Professionals today.

Data Security:  IT'S THE LAW

Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Do you have clients that live in Massachusetts?  What kind of information do you keep on file about them?  Massachusetts has enacted legislation,
201 CMR 17, that sets very clear standards for the handling of clients' Personal information.

What is Personal information?  According to
201 CMR 17, Personal information is "a Massachusetts resident's first name and last name or first initial and last name in combination with any one or more of the following data elements that relate to such resident: (a) Social Security number; (b) driver's license number or state-issued identification card number; or (c) financial account number, or credit or debit card number, with or without any required security code, access code, personal identification number or password, that would permit access to a resident's financial account; provided, however, that "Personal information" shall not include information that is lawfully obtained from publicly available information, or from federal, state or local government records lawfully made available to the general public."

If your business has this kind of information about your clients, you need to comply with the law.  Failure to do so could result in large fines.  Your first step should be to read the law, which can be found here.

The Gaudreau Group is fully compliant with the law.  Please contact us if you need proof of compliance for your records.
