| Primitive World Productions Newsletter | Video with a Mission Winter 2010-11 | |
Greetings!
Would it be repetitive to tell you all that 2010 only got busier? It did, and we are just catching our breath! Looking into 2011, we are excited about what lays ahead - new projects, continuing projects, and new clients. Fortunately, we love what we do and that is why we do it. Please read on to find out what we have been up to and what is just around the corner for us. And that website redesign has happened - so make sure you check it out at www.pwpvideo.com and let us know what you think! -- Michael Schweisheimer, Founder, PWP |

Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation (PWDC)
EARN Center Video Series
PWDC, a nonprofit corporation working towards improving the region's economy by supporting workforce development initiatives, hired us to produces a series of videos for their Transitional Workforce Division. This branch of PWDC, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, oversees the delivery of training, services, and ultimately, job placement to welfare recipients via their network of EARN Centers throughout Philadelphia.
PWP has been given the opportunity to capture stories of four resilient former welfare recipients who agreed to openly share both their hardships and achievements on camera. By doing so, they hope to inspire others who are currently facing the employment barriers that they once faced, and have now overcome due in part to PWDC programs and services.
To date, we've visited an Energy Auditor from the Energy Coordinating Agency, a Bookkeeper form Brown's Shoprite, and a Supportive Services and Training Coordinator from PWDC. Getting behind the scenes glimpses of different work environments, we've learned about maintaining energy efficiency in row homes and keeping track of cash in supermarkets. And as usual, meeting new people and hearing others' life experiences is both rewarding and insightful.
The videos to be produced include four individual success story videos, a video to be shown during program orientation, and an employer recruitment video. The project will be completed this winter and videos will be found on either the PWDC EARN Center website , or our Vimeo and YouTube Channels. |
MLK Day is coming - 1/17/11
As MLK Day approaches, PWP is getting ready to have it's yearly "Day on, not a day off" volunteering day. For the last 3 years, the entire staff of PWP, as well as friends and partners, have gotten together to put their time into a valuable Philadelphia project. From painting murals at a community center, to making hats and scarves for those in need, PWP staffers are proud of their efforts. We encourage you all to follow us as we honor the National Day of Service and volunteer yourselves. For more information, you can go to: http://www.globalcitizen.us.com/ or http://mlkday.gov/ . |

Weird Waste Day 2010
On November 13th, PWP participated in Weird Waste Day, put on by Green in Chesnut Hill (Grinch - a great acronym). Held at Valley Green Bank, PWP was able to responsibly recycle 50 pounds of "weird waste" (computer parts, office equipment, and the like) rather than send it to a land fill. Not only did we recycle from our own office, but PWP invited all of our staff to contribute to the collection from their homes.
We consider this a victory in our efforts to become a greener and greener company. Along with updating our CSR (which is currently in progress), PWP strives to make the world a better place both with our work AND with our office practices.

Strictly Business with JEVS
On October 28th at the Center City Sheraton in Philadelphia, PWP was very excited to have again been part of JEVS Human Services Strictly Business luncheon. Five videos we created for the event were shown, including two Inspiration Award Winner stories and two Business Leadership Award stories. In addition, a special video was created about the difficulties of finding work in the current economy, and the services JEVS provides to help people return to the workforce. The videos were very well received, and the event was another success for JEVS.

It is hard to convey to our clients and friends just what an essential part you play in the work that we do. Creating Video with a Mission would be far less rewarding if we didn't have the support and encouragement that you provide. You push us to keep going, and we thank you for that and for all of your emails and comments. Speaking of emails and comments, please don't forget to check out our redesigned website . Thanks to our friend Jeff Herron at Soundpress, we now have a full Content Management System, so we can impliment your comments almost as fast as we hope to receive them. And, we plan to continue to evolve the website on an ongoing basis, so stay in touch. We love hearing from you and wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season. Thank you, Primitive World Productions |
