The new Envision
Peace Museum
and Mayor Nutter
PWP
had two opportunities in May to videotape Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on
behalf of one of Philadelphia's
newest museums: Envision Peace Museum. We consider ourselves very lucky not
only to have met the Mayor again, but also to be in on the ground
floor of such an exciting new project. According to the Envision Peace
Museum, "its purpose
is to further a just, peaceful, and ecologically sustainable world" and
its mission is to "help diverse groups of people change the world."
This mission is perfectly aligned with PWP's mission. For further information
about the museum please visit their website. |
PWP turns 10 - celebrate this milestone!
2010 marks PWP's 10th year in business! We are all very proud of our first decade, and want to thank all of our clients, colleagues, and cohorts who have helped us make it this far! We look forward to many more years and many more adventures! |

Bait and Switch: The Futile Pursuit of the American Dream
Review by Abby Rogers
In Bait and Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream, Barbara Ehrenreich explores a subject all too familiar with many Americans right now: unemployment and the search for a career/job in the white collar world. She takes the "American Dream" on head on - namely, if you go to school, work hard, do well, try your best, etc, you'll succeed. She goes undercover, using her maiden name, and markets herself as a public relations person and event planner, with the goal of obtaining a corporate job that pays approximately fifty thousand a year with health benefits - a fair goal by today's standards.
Her journey involves learning to "sell" herself, and treating the job search as her full time job. She hires coaches, travels to networking events that turn out to be little more than recruitment for more expensive "coaching" sessions or advertisement for one pyramid scheme or another; all to no fruition. She explores the system that has turned job hunting into its own, mostly unregulated industry in this country - from "life coaches" with no qualification or certification to personality tests with no scientific backing.
While not as compelling as Nickeled and Dimed, her last book, it's still worth the read. Ehrenreich's writing is full of humor, self-deprecation, and a real belief in what she is doing. She represents the struggle and humiliation of her fruitless job search, and her surprise when it's not quite as easy as she thought it would be is real. While Nickeled and Dimed had a clear goal (uncovering myths about the poor/blue collar workers), Bait and Switch has no real advice to offer the unemployed white collar worker. |

Web Video: Fundraising Sucess
& Our Successes
PWP's Michael Schweisheimer and Debbie Arnold Brown have been spearheading our efforts to teach and present more about our work and our industry. With the help of the rest of the PWPeeps, they have taught a successful class about how nonprofits and small businesses can use video on social media platforms as well as traditional means. At the request of FundRaising Success Magazine, they have also created a video for the online version about how to incorporate video in social media initiatives. Click this link to see the video. In addition, PWP had a strong presence at the AFP International Conference in Baltimore in April and at the local AFP's Franklin Forum, also in April. And to cap all that off, Michael was a guest on the radio show The Marketing of Business on WWDB AM 890 on May 8th.

What's up at PWP?
Viral Videos and Job Shadowing
PWP has been involved in a number of interesting projects in the last few months, including Viral Videos for Acxiom Corporation's MySalesHero website and Job Shadow Videos for Delaware and Chester County Work Force Investment Boards. PWP crews have been hard at work on these fiction and nonfiction videos, utilizing the talents of our directors, editors, DPs, and producers. And we feel the results speak and will continue to speak for themselves! To see the first few MSH videos, use these links:

As always, PWP has had its glass more than half full for the last few months, and we don't want that to change anytime soon! We hope that you continue to enjoy our quarterly Newsletters and that if you have any questions, concerns, or need for videos, you will reach out to us! We are here!
