Dear Ones

Easter arrives with traditions, symbols and embedded beliefs from our childhood.   There is beauty in the pageantry and music.  There is hope and love in much of the message; however, there is one part of the message that I feel important enough for us to look at in depth again this year.

It is often said that Jesus died on the cross for our sins; however, focusing on the cross is missing the mark.  It is a detail that was required so that Jesus could demonstrate overcoming the physical world.

This is the point in spiritual awareness where humankind's focus of interest pivots from body-centered to spirit-centered.  It provides us with the symbol for the challenges and problems we experience in life that we lift up and carry.  It is the evidence of the great potential that is in each of us to overcome the situations we experience as demanding.  Yet this is only the beginning.

It is the crossing-out of fear that moves us to the celebration of the Easter gift.

Affirmation adapted from Ernest Wilson:

I believe in good outcomes.  I expect the good.  I await its fulfillment.   I let patience have her perfect work.  I work as I wait; I work as if everything depends on me, and pray as if everything depends on God.  In quietness and in confidence I find my fulfillment.

The crucifixion was needed so that its central message could be confirmed.  The overcoming of death - the validation of eternal life was what this teaching provided.  It is a teaching that there is much more to life than that of our bodies.  Jesus assured us that Spirit is the focus of our existence.

Jesus said, "It is finished."  And yet it is just beginning.  The beginning of a new understanding, a new peace, and a new joy.  Life is eternal.

From Thomas Moore:

When "from the lips of truth" one mighty breath

Shall like a whirlwind scatter in its breeze

That whole dark pile of human mockeries: -

Then shall the reign of mind commence on earth,

And starting fresh as from a second birth,

Man in the sunshine of the world's new spring

Shall walk transparent like some holy thing!"

Holy we are.  Jesus taught that he lives; thus, we know that we live, also.  You are the light of the world; live fully, live in this knowledge of Spirit.

Blessings for a continued awakening to Truth.

Easter Blessings,

Rev. Sondra

WEEKLY LESSONS by REV. SONDRA

Holy Week Services

Let the festival of Passover and

the observance of Holy Week

serve to bring us all together

in a great celebration of

the integrity of our common roots in God and

of the diversity of our unique individualizations of God.

- from  Lent 2012:  Release Your Inner Splendor

Palm Sunday Service, April 1st, 11:00 a.m.

Followed by Monthly CommUnity Feast

From A Course in Miracles (Text 396/425) we read:

"This is Palm Sunday, the celebration of victory .... It is time for us to understand what Palm Sunday is about; it's about the celebration of victory -- the acceptance and integration of Truth .... Let us not spend this Holy Week brooding on the crucifixion ..., but happily in the celebration of ... release, for Easter is the sign of peace not pain."

And within this celebratory energy, Sheri White performs "I Hope You Dance."

In Observance of Maundy Thursday

On Wednesday, April 4th, 6:30p.m.

Foot-Washing & Communion

Please join us in this moving service as part of your personal, metaphysical preparation for Easter.

Maundy Thursday is the Christian feast or holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter which commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples.

The word Maundy is derived from the Latin mandatum (commandment): "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." Jesus spoke these words in explanation of the significance of his washing the disciples' feet.

Good Friday Service

April 6th, 6:30p.m.

Continuing with our Easter preparation, we hold a service around the seven last phrases spoken by Jesus on the cross and how they remind us what this process can mean to each of us as individuals.

Charles Fillmore wrote that "The word crucifixion means the crossing out in consciousness of certain errors that have become fixed states of mind; the giving up of the whole personality in order that the Christ Mind may be expressed in all its fullness."

Beaumont Trash-Off

8:30 a.m. - Noon

Our Registration Site:

Athletic Complex, 950 Langham Rd, BMT

Unity of Southeast Texas has registered to participate in this fun and worthwhile activity. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and the City of Beaumont will furnish materials (gloves, safety vests, trash bags and trash bins) for a successful event.

We are to meet at the above site before 8:30, wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes, and will be led to the area that's ours to clear.

It's a great opportunity for us to participate within the community and to increase awareness of our church.  To enhance our visibility even more, we will have a few extra Unity of Southeast Texas t-shirts available for sale after service Easter Sunday. [SEE CONNECTION WITH NEW BOOK STUDY, APRIL 18th]

The list of participants is growing, and we would love to have you and your family and friends sign up.

Please contact the church office as soon as possible
so we can report how many of us are showing up that morning:

New Wednesday Night Book Study

10-week course in

PROSPERITY

beginning Wednesday, April 18th, 7-8 p.m.

You'll discover what it means to develop a giving consciousness, what the truth is about money, how to replace a consciousness of lack with a lasting consciousness of abundance, and more. Compare and contrast Charles Fillmore's Prosperity with Eric Butterworth's Spiritual Economics as you study substance, the activity of mind, faith, and visualization. After exploring the ways you can use these ideas in your daily life, you'll put them into practice in a "real life" prosperity.  [GET AHEAD OF THE GAME BY PARTICIPATING IN THE BEAUMONT TRASH-OFF, APRIL 14th]
