Dear Ones ...
| |
As we come into autumn, we have the opportunity to move into a season of contemplation. It is a time to examine our spiritual journey. Every day as we dwell in God, we express the very energy of life within each of us as the Christ. Bringing greater light into our experience brings greater comfort, peace and understanding.
Rev. Ed Townley writes:
"As far as we have come on the path of Awareness, however, there is further to go. Now that we know of the Christ Presence of God that is our true identity, the question is: How do we express it? The tenth chapter of Emily Cady's Lessons in Truth is entitled 'Finding the Secret Place'.
Dr. Cady emphasizes that this is not a difficult search. Willingness and surrender are the keys, and meditation - what Charles Fillmore called 'sitting in the silence,' is our most important means to accessing the Lord of our Being. The Silence need not be silent. Nature abhors a vacuum, and an attempt to be totally silent may simply allow a rush of outside thought energy to distract us. Music or a simple, repeated phrase, a mantra, may help. We are not to worry about doing it perfectly-The Presence of God will not be denied, and will not refuse to express if we are willing to listen."
Let us create time to relax and allow God to express in us gently, to infill us with the presence of love gracefully, as we move into days of autumn.
Abundant blessings,
Rev. Sondra

OCTOBER:
LET GO & LET GOD
Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you.

As we give expression to the power and presence of God within us,
we overcome challenges; we answer the call of Spirit
to be all that we were created to be.

This Coming Sunday with Rev. Jim Rosemergy
| |
Sunday,October 9th

Afternoon Workshop on The Gathering
1-3p.m. (Suggested Love Offering $15))
Rev. Jim Rosemergy

Many of you know Rev. Jim through his books, his website www.innerjourney.org, and/or his talks and workshops in Unity churches.
We are honored and delighted to welcome him back to Unity of Beaumont (now Unity of Southeast Texas) next month.
The workshop will be based on Rev. Jim's latest book, The Gathering (available in our bookstore) which we have been studying in our Sunday morning Book Study.
"Prayer is a challenge for many of us. What should we ask of God? Is anyone listening? Why aren't our prayers being answered? The hard truth is this: God doesn't fulfill needs. For thousands of years, humanity has brought needs to God with little success, often resulting in disillusionment. Now is the time to try something new: A nine-step prayer practice called The Gathering."
The first three steps are:
Step 1: I release my human need.
Step 2: I accept my human condition so I can express my spiritual nature.
Step 3: I willingly release any part of my human self that is a barrier to God.

Pet Blessing
| Sunday, October 23, 6:00 p.m.
Pet Blessing by Rev. Sondra
Bring your pets - gently restrained - to be blessed.
Pets are a part of the family. We want to bless them, pray for them, and celebrate with them. | |
I give thanks for the creation all of the peoples;
Two legged, four legged, winged and finned. May I learn the great lessons from each of these... From the Cat, let me learn healing, clarity, and keen vision. From the Bird, let me learn how to let my spirit soar. From the Fish, let me learn tenacity and to overcome obstacles. From the Horse, let me learn strength and freedom. And from the Dog, let me learn faithfulness, courage, and unconditional love. May I walk, swim and fly in harmony and balance with all of these.

Prayer Chaplain Thoughts ...
| |
"Sweet Surrender"
by Prayer Chaplain Emeritus
Howard Pierson
These two words--when put together--seem paradoxical, don't they? What could possibly be sweet about surrender? Doesn't surrender denote failure, defeat, giving up all hope, the end? If we have a limited perspective of ourselves and the world around us, it sometimes can and does.
As a Prayer Chaplain, however, it becomes a miraculous accomplishment. Surrendering is not an ending, but a beginning. How so?
When I pray, alone or with others, I fully give what is being prayed for to God, and at the point that I stop trying to work everything out, God gives me the tools to overcome or surmount the situation I've prayed about. I've been given the necessary guidance and wisdom to achieve the healing that needs to take place; I've allowed God in the midst of me to do the work that needs to be done.
As Prayer Chaplains pray with you, we give everything to God. We no longer need to dwell on the subject of the prayer; we don't need to revisit it. God will take care of the details.
May you find the place in your life where you can surrender your cares and concerns to God. It will enrich and more fully develop your faith.
