Another 100% Month for Frozen Semen Litters!
|
It is true what all of the poets say, April truly is a month of fertility! We achieved a 100% Success with frozen semen for the third time in twelve months! We want everyone to be successful so we like to show everyone our progesterone results used for our successful litters. Every bitch timed by progesterone testing by our lab and surgically inseminated at the Pearson Animal Hospital in San Marcos, CA in April gave birth. We are so pleased to welcome these adorable pups into the big (and constantly growing) Canine Cryobank family!! Here are pics (and links) from some of the litters:

Successful conceptions with frozen semen require consistent, reliable progesterone testing. We have done thousands of progesterone timings on breeding bitches. Based on thousands of bitch timings, when a progesterone level is 5.0ng, for example, a continued rise cannot be predicted. Each bitch is unique in her progesterone rise. While gross estimations can be made, if the breeding is important, progesterone levels must be determined. Below are our data for surgical inseminations timed by us and surgically implanted by Pearson Animal Hospital:

SHOULD I INBREED?
Inbreeding while used very often by our clients to set type, must be carefully analyzed for other unwanted side effects. The effects of inbreeding are well documented. Some effects include: increased juvenile mortality, increased perinatal mortality and morbidity, adverse effects on ovulation and spermatogenesis resulting in lower numbers and lower motility of sperm along with higher instances of morphological abnormalities.(Spearow, 1988; Lewontin,1974;Frankel and Soule, 1981)
"The domestic dog can also suffer from the effects of inbreeding(Wildt et al, 1992a:Oson et al1992). Wildt et al(1992a) found that inbred male dogs had significantly lower sperm volume and concentration and had poorer reproductive performance when compared with male dogs who were not inbred.
Olson et al (1992) investigated the causes of azoospermia in 18 dogs . In 6 of the cases, inbreeding was considered the cause."
