100% Frozen Litters- February 2012
Second 100% month in one year! Again proving frozen semen success in a general veterinary hospital Today, frozen semen is the best answer to maintaining superior genetic material for future generations. And we strive everyday to demonstrate that frozen semen is a viable breeding option. We present our progesterone timing data here and have shared on our website the strategies we use to reach acceptable results for breeders. The data below is from our frozen semen surgicals done in house...that is ,with progesterone testing done here and Carol transporting and thawing the semen at Pearson Animal Hospital, San Marcos, Ca.

The results make it look too easy! One bitch, we thought too obese but she had pups. Another was 9 years old and the sperm was frozen when the stud was 10 years old. And another bitch was sent to stay here with a friend while we bred her...never a recommended strategy but she lived in a remote rural area of New Mexico where no one had experience with frozen semen. Theoretically, all progesterone tests should be the same. A 5.0 ng/m. sample should read the same in all testing kits. But that is not true in reality. The reagents are not the same in all kits. The instruments reading the results are not the same. And the handling of the blood samples is very critical to the accuracy of the testing. Our test results done by Sue (and Maria Theresa on Sat.) have been validated by the thousands of tests we have done over the years with the kits we use. So the successful litters we get may not reflect the results other facilities would get using our progesterone recommendations. Each facility needs to develop recommendation for successful breeding based on successful breedings with the progesterone kit they are using. See out website page on progesterone for more information. |
