Season of Spaniels!  With all odds against her, Cassie became pregnant!

  A high number of fruitless breeding attempts on one bitch is taxing for both the canine and owner alike.  Well-known Clumber Spaniel breeder, Patti La Pittus knows this torment all too well.  Her sweet three-year-old bitch, Ch. Whidbey's Devon Garland (Cassie), has never had a single season.  Luckily, with Patti's dedication and love for Cassie, along with the help of Veterinarian Janet Moston and Canine Cryobank, Cassie became pregnant!  Dr. Moston used an oral Bromocriptine regimen to induce estrus.  Progesterone tests monitored her estrus.  Progesterone levels stayed so low for so long it was disheartening.  Then Cassie's behavior changed.  She wanted to breed but her progesterone was only 2.7ng.    We inseminated at the owner's request but the male was not interested and didn't produce well.  Three days later, Cassie's progesterone levels jumped from 2.7 ng to 15.75 ng!  This time, the semen count was over a Billion.  Semen from Ch. Moonrysn Critter James Dean was artificially inseminated into Cassie and a litter of puppies were born!  Congratulations,Patti.
This was the first induced FERTILE estrus that we ever  monitered and we are very happy for Patti and Cassie.

An All American Fairy Tale

Liberty Poodles
In my opinion there is no better way to celebrate Labor Day and the heart of our hard-working, driven country, then with the birth of a hearty litter of Standard Poodles; who have centuries of dutiful water retrieving pumping through their blood. On August 31st, Ch Liberty Dog's Gracie gave birth to 11 puppies  with progesterone testing and a little breeding assistance by Carol.

 Marilyn De Cair, a top Bullmastiff breeder in Southern California, was concerned when Dr. Pearson, DVM, requested that a staff technician escort her from the waiting room to join her bitch in surgery.  Thankfully, Marilyn's sedated bitch, Ch. EverTrue Bullmastiffs' Witchy, was safe, however, Dr. Pearson discovered something rare and unusual and wanted to show  the anomaly to Marilyn.  The two women stood aghast over Witchy, as they observed her reproductive tract. Whitchy had only one horn!  Dr. Pearson continued with the surgical insemination; gently putting thawed semen into the one, lonely horn.

Dr. Pearson has worked closely with Carol and the Canine Cryobank team for over a decade, and is a leader in surgical artificial inseminations.  But we all knew the odds for success were slim. So at 28 days after Witchy's AI, when ultrasound showed  that she was pregnant with three  pups, everyone got a little teary.  Sometimes, if puppies are destined to be born, nothing stops them.  We are happy to report that the puppies have since been delivered and are healthy, hearty little rascals!
