Company Culture -Our Secret Sauce

Dear ,

We were so excited when one of our employees offered to create a video about CIO. We have received good feedback from some of our clients so we thought we would share it with you.

It is clear that after making this video we now know what makes CIO so fantastic, it's the people. Our dedicated, loyal, fun-loving employees make CIO what it is and we are forever grateful to the their hard work and commitment.

From our back patio BBQ's to Chili Cook-Offs and Nerf wars, we definitely know how to make our work environment a place that we want to be instead of a place we have to be. We truly believe that this attitude is communicated through our interactions with clients and that providing a fun environment improves both employee satisfaction and customer service alike.

We hope you enjoy the CIO: Who We Are video (see further down in the newsletter) and keep up the good work everyone!

Cheers,
John Petote
CEO, CIO Solutions

Check with the Tech: Finding the Right Printer
Check with the Tech
Q: There are so many printer options, how do I know I am choosing the right one for my office?

A:
When the time comes to replace your printer, your first instinct might be to head to Costco or a local office supply store and wander the aisles of shiny new printers.  Each of them will have a list of exciting features that seem like you cannot live with out them and how did you ever function before.

It is only hours later that you realize the printer you just bought isn't going to connect to your office network and doesn't have the same scanning ability you are used to. Too often, products sold at Costco or office supply stores are designed for single-person or home-use.  Now, not only will you have to stand in line to return your purchase, you're back where you started.

When you are faced with replacing an old printer or adding new hardware to your office network, CIO is ready to help you choose the best hardware for your needs.  We have extensive knowledge of your network and the requirements you need to look for. We can also assist in navigating the jungle of consumer and professional products to find the solution that works best for your needs, both now and into the future.

CIO Solutions to add Alert Logic solutions to its line of Managed Security Services

HOUSTON - August 15, 2012 - Alert Logic, a leader in delivering on-demand Security-as-a-Service, announced that CIO Solutions will integrate Alert Logic's Web Security Manager into its current suite of managed security services.

CIO Solutions will be able to provide enterprise customers with fully managed protection from web application attacks. Web Security Manager analyzes incoming traffic and protects applications from dangers such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting. With a powerful intuitive learning engine, Web Security Manager analyzes web traffic and develops new security policies to provide stronger protection. In addition, Web Security Manager provides customers with immediate PCI DSS requirement 6.6 compliance.

Eric Egolf, President of CIO Solutions, sees incredible value in partnering with Alert Logic, "Increasing our portfolio of Security Platforms with partnerships like Alert Logic will continue to allow us to be at the leading edge of Network Security in the Tri-Counties region."

Web application attacks have become one of the most prevalent IT security threats. Alert Logic's Spring 2012 State of Cloud Security Report found that seven out of ten customers had experienced web application attacks, on average 40 times per year. These attacks are behind many high profile breaches of sensitive data.

Alert Logic's Security-as-a-Service provides CIO Solutions and its enterprise customers four distinct advantages: a market leading web application firewall, a fully managed SaaS delivery model, integrated 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC) services to monitor and provide expert guidance, and it is deployable anywhere a customer has IT infrastructure - including the cloud.

"At Alert Logic, we understand service providers, and our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and managed services were built from the ground up to seamlessly integrate into partner environments and delivery models," said Gray Hall, president and CEO of Alert Logic. "This partnership allows Alert Logic to focus on protecting enterprise networks while CIO Solutions focuses on providing customers uninterrupted access to the IT systems they need in order to do business."

CIO Solutions has been providing IT management and design services to the Tri-County Area since 1986. CIO specializes in helping businesses focus on their core business by designing and managing their IT department. In addition to managing IT networks, CIO also provides consultation on Private Cloud Services, Enterprise Storage, Virtualization, VoIP Phone Systems and other solutions. More information can be found at www.ciosolutions.com or by calling their office 805-692-6700.

Alert Logic simplifies IT security and compliance management by delivering an integrated solution consisting of Software-as-a-Service products and 24x7 Security Operations Monitoring services for intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, web application security and log management. Built from the ground up to address the unique challenges of public and private cloud environments, Alert Logic partners with over half of the largest cloud and hosting service providers to provide Security-as-a-Service for over 1,700 enterprise customers. Alert Logic is based in Houston, TX and was founded in 2002. For more information, please visit http://www.alertlogic.com.

Feature Article: Interview with Ben Farber of Bristol Associates, Inc.

Bristol

Cloud Client Profile:  Ben Farber, Vice President - Casino Division at Bristol Associates

Company Profile: Bristol Associates is an executive recruiting firm specializing in gaming, hospitality, direct marketing, tourism, health care and food industries.

Favorite thing about the cloud: "I can use it just about anywhere!  At work, at home and on the road (for personal or business trips).  At the last conference I was at, using the cloud was way easier than having to call in to the office to have people look things up for me."

When he uses the cloud: "At work all day, of course, but I can work from home as needed also - I was just working on something last night on my cloud desktop and when I came in this morning, it was still right on my screen when I came in to work.  It's nice because it's the same desktop at home as at work."

Were you afraid to go to the cloud: "Anywhere you deal with computers, you come to learn that there are always going to be changes to software and equipment.  That's inevitable, but it's the setbacks that are the scary part.  Upgrades are bad enough but having an upgrade with excessive downtime prevents me from doing my work.  Changing over to the cloud was easy - everything was the same.  It was the same software, the same email, everything like I was used to - I could just get to them easier and from more places now.  When I first heard about going to the cloud, it almost sounded too good to be true.  I was skeptical of how reliable it would be but it has been pretty seamless." Ben Farber

Is there anything you don't like about the cloud?: "I'm not able to watch youtube as well in the cloud.  I don't have to go there often, but occasionally I have to see a training video or a client sends me a link.  I just duck out of the cloud to watch it on my desktop."

Anything you would like to add?:  "I would recommend the cloud to others - it's not as scary as some might think. Your team gives great support, so we know we're in good hands."
