In an effort to increase awareness (and hopefully membership!) of our vibrant Jewish community, Kadima will be hosting a booth at Seattle's most popular street fair.
Our "job" will be to distribute brochures, pass out pickles and water, and shmooze with visitors to our booth. Fun!

2012 Theme: Food and Community
How does food shape our communities? This year at camp, by breaking bread together, we will build friendships and promote cross-cultural learning. We will explore the idea of food through cooking projects, sharing traditional foods, hospitality, growing our own food, and food justice projects. This year will hold an abundance of fun and food!
MEPC is a grassroots coalition of Arab and Jewish communities and our friends. We are dedicated to embracing our common humanity while empowering youth through education, recreation, and leadership development. The camp takes a multifaceted approach to teaching the values of peacemaking through a focus on conflict resolution and human rights using creative art, science, music, dance, sports, and language activities. We plant seeds of friendship and fun while emphasizing our commonalities and celebrating our differences! Join our community for its eleventh year of camp at the UW Botanic Gardens.

Enjoy...!" _____________________________________________________The Child ID App The FBI has launched a new version of its Child ID App built specifically for Android mobile phones. The application can be downloaded for free from the Android Apps section of Google Play. The Child ID App, first released in August 2011 for iPhones, provides parents with an easy way to electronically store pictures and vital information about their children in case they go missing -- whether it's a toddler wandering away at the mall or a teen who has been snatched by a stranger. Using the app, you can show pictures of your kids and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers on the spot. You can also quickly and easily e-mail the information to authorities with a few clicks. The app also includes tips on keeping children safe and specific guidance on what to do in those first few crucial hours after a child goes missing. To date, the iPhone version of the app has been downloaded more than 121,000 times. More info here. _____________________________________________________  ASSE International, which places international high-school students with local host families for the school year, is currently recruiting host families for students from the former Soviet Union for the 2012-13 school year. The basic requirements to host are minimal. The student needs to be provided with: 1. His or her own bed (can share a room with a child of the same gender) 2. A place to study 3. Three meals a day. English should be the primary language spoken in the host family's home, as the students are coming here to learn English.
This is a volunteer position. Host families are not compensated for hosting. The non-financial rewards of hosting are many, and include:
* Learning about another culture * Developing a lifelong friendship * Providing an exceptional young person with the opportunity of a lifetime!  The Bar Mitzvah and the Beast: One Family's Cross-Country Ride of Passage by Bike, by Matt Biers-Ariel
Amateur bike rider, father of three, and everyday public school teacher, Matt Biers-Ariel never dreamed of riding a bike across the United States. But then his hard-to-impress teenage son, Yonah, refused to have a bar mitzvah as he approached age thirteen. No dancing with grandma or chanting traditional prayers? Something had to be done to celebrate this rite of passage.
So Matt, his wife Djina, Yonah, and little brother Solomon decided to saddle up for a physical ride of passage -- one that would take them 3,804 miles by bicycle from the waters of the Pacific Ocean, over the Rockies, through Midwest small towns, and all the way to Washington D.C. Armed with ibuprofen, several gallons of Gatorade, and one unpredictable tandem bike (the "Beast"), the Biers-Ariel family cycled across the middle of America, chatting with colorful characters along the way, roasting marshmallows at campgrounds, and quarreling over the state of climate change, religious identity, and several flat tires. They also collected thousands of signatures on a self-made global-warming petition calling for the U.S. to undergo its own rite of passage -- one of energy conservation.

Author, editor and speaker Bruce Caplan will share little known facts about the sinking of the Titanic. Building on Logan Marshall's written account of the disaster, Caplan has been a Titanic sleuth since childhood. The exhibition features more than 100 objects from King Tut's tomb and from ancient sites representing important rulers throughout 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history.
