HELP!  Really, we do need your help. It will be so much FUN to help staff the Kadima booth at the University District Street Fair.

In an effort to increase awareness (and hopefully membership!) in our vibrant Jewish community, Kadima will be hosting tables at two up-coming popular street fairs:


The University District Street Fair
Saturday May 19 10am-7pm
Sunday   May 20 10am-6pm
AND
The Fremont Fair
Saturday June 16 10am-8pm
Sunday   June 17 11am-6pm

Leah Haseley is in charge of coordinating the table for the U-district fair and it would be wonderful for people to help her host by signing up for a three-hour block of time that weekend. Below are suggestions, but if you can only spare two hours, that is fine too:

Pre-Kindergarten Program

For children 4-5 years old. Developing Jewish identity and kindergarten readiness skills. For single-parent families, inter-faith parents, same-sex parents...for all parents raising Jewish children. This Pre-K program will serve as an introduction to Jewish songs, stories, traditions, and progressive Jewish values. We will picnic together before the performance. Arrange your own carpool, pack your own family picnic lunches, bring your own picnic blanket. Performance is at 2:00 pm. 
 
Tickets for enrolled students are covered by tuition and will be distributed to families at Sunday School on May 20th. If your child is absent on May 20th your child's ticket will be mailed to you so you have it in hand when you arrive (in case you take a later ferry). Ticket information: foresttheater.com/tickets.

Raising Voices, Lifting Spirits: Music of Hope & Healing for Hard Times

Seattle Jewish Chorale presents a program to lift the spirit and lighten the heart! What helps us, as individuals and communities, to overcome life's challenges? Family, faith, humor--and, always, music and dance! The thirty voices of the chorale, accompanied by pianist Harumi Flesher, will perform songs in English, Yiddish, Ladino and Hebrew--melodies and words which have comforted and sustained the Jewish people throughout history, and can bring hope to all who are struggling through difficult times.

Co-sponsored by the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, with support from Jewish Family Service.
 

  

In the spirit of the concert 's theme, Seattle Jewish Chorale will donate a portion of the evening's proceeds to Jewish Family Service.

The Middle East Peace Camp invites you to join in its eleventh year of camp, this summer from
July 9th to July 13th!

How does food shape our communities? This year at camp, by breaking bread together, we will build friendships and promote cross-cultural learning. We will explore the idea of food through cooking projects, sharing traditional foods, hospitality, growing our own food, and food justice projects. This year will hold an abundance of fun and food!

2012 Theme: Food and Community July 9 - 13

The MEPC is a grassroots coalition of Arab and Jewish communities and our friends. We are dedicated to embracing our common humanity while empowering youth through education, recreation, and leadership development. The camp takes a multifaceted approach to teaching the values of peacemaking through a focus on conflict resolution and human rights using creative art, science, music, dance, sports, and language activities. We plant seeds of friendship and fun while emphasizing our commonalities and celebrating our differences! Join our community for its eleventh year of camp at the UW Botanic Gardens.

Published in 1968 in honor of Israel's 20th anniversary, Dali's Aliyah is a little-known suite in which the late Spanish surrealist portrays the epic history of the Jewish diaspora and the return to the homeland. This exhibit is a complete collection of the 25 signed, colored lithographic reproductions of original mixed-media paintings by Salvador Dali

This event explores the diversity of Turkish culture and will feature a variety of speakers, traditional arts and crafts, children's activities, authentic costumes and traditional Turkish food. Our cultural center will present: an assortment of cultural materials, notable historical and modern aspects of Turkish history and prominent Turkish figures, culinary tasting of baklava, börek and other delights, Turkish tourism highlights and a do-it-yourself section where guests can get hands-on experience creating Turkish desserts. Students can learn about Turkey's rich history, gain a deeper understanding of Turkish culture, try on traditional Turkish clothing, create hands-on Turkish artwork, enjoy delectable Turkish cuisine, and much more. The exhibition features more than 100 objects from King Tut's tomb and from ancient sites representing important rulers throughout 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history. He is the UN's Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, and author of numerous books, including The Costs of War: International Law, the UN and World Order After Iraq and Achieving Human Rights.
