Congratulations, Kadima Volunteers of the Year!
Michael Blum. Chef Michael shopped for and prepared a delicious dinner for 60 guests at Kadima's Passover Seder. He also found the perfect venue for the Seder and managed the RSVP's. Michael serves on the Board of Directors and is involved with the group of Kadimaniks that is working on forming a Social Justice committee.
Kevin Cain. Kevin was involved in setting up for many Kadima events this year, and was also involved in post-event tear-downs. Kevin helped erect the Sukkah again this year. He ran over to Kadima House at dinnertime one rainy evening to help haul the new safe indoors. For the auction, Kevin created and donated a beautiful drawing which incorporated Jewish and Irish themes. Kevin serves on the Programs committee and taught a class on The Tree of Life. Most recently, Kevin was Assistant to the Chef in preparing dinner for 60 guests at Kadima's Passover Seder.
Lauren Plawner. Always cheerful, friendly, and helpful, Lauren and her children Dhara and Milo operated Kafe Kadima this year and most of last year. This requires a commitment to 20 Sunday mornings during the school year. Running Kafe Kadima involves shopping, food preparation, setting up, and cleaning up, which means staying well past noon. We know that Lauren would like to recognize Alison Miller for stepping in when Lauren couldn't be there one morning.

Join us for a first gathering--a Cinco de Mayo potluck dinner for schmoozing and discussion. Help us imagine what this space could be for progressive Jews! Perhaps a place to address homelessness, police and judicial injustice, or other local events? A group to consider how to respond to the threat of intervention in Iran or to develop a progressive Jewish response to the evolving reality of the Israeli occupation in Palestine?

Help Needed to Staff Kadima's Street Fairs Booths
In an effort to increase awareness (and hopefully membership!) in our vibrant Jewish community, Kadima will be hosting tables at two up-coming popular street fairs:
The University District Street Fair
Saturday May 19 10am-7pm Sunday May 20 10am-6pm AND The Fremont Fair Saturday June 16 10am-8pm Sunday June 17 11am-6pm
Leah Haseley is in charge of coordinating the table for the U-district fair and it would be wonderful for people to help her host by signing up for a three-hour block of time that weekend. Below are suggestions, but if you can only spare two hours, that is fine too:

A Kadima Field Trip to the Kitsap Forest Theatre! Fiddler on the Roof 3000 Seabeck Highway, Bremerton, WA (map) Located 15 minutes from the Bremerton Ferry Plan to catch the 11:10 a.m. Seattle to Bremerton Ferry. No Sunday School classes on June 3rd. We will picnic together before the performance. Arrange your own carpool, pack your own family picnic lunches, bring your own picnic blanket. Performance is at 2:00 pm. Tickets for enrolled students are covered by tuition and will be distributed to families at Sunday School on May 20th. If your child is absent on May 20th your child's ticket will be mailed to you so you have it in hand when you arrive (in case you take a later ferry). Ticket information: foresttheater.com/tickets. The Middle East Peace Camp invites you to join in its eleventh year of camp, this summer from
July 9th to July 13th! How does food shape our communities? This year at camp, by breaking bread together, we will build friendships and promote cross-cultural learning. We will explore the idea of food through cooking projects, sharing traditional foods, hospitality, growing our own food, and food justice projects. This year will hold an abundance of fun and food!

The MEPC is a grassroots coalition of Arab and Jewish communities and our friends. We are dedicated to embracing our common humanity while empowering youth through education, recreation, and leadership development. The camp takes a multifaceted approach to teaching the values of peacemaking through a focus on conflict resolution and human rights using creative art, science, music, dance, sports, and language activities. We plant seeds of friendship and fun while emphasizing our commonalities and celebrating our differences! Join our community for its eleventh year of camp at the UW Botanic Gardens.

About the film: The WSHERC has produced a 20-minute educational documentary that weaves the testimonies and artifacts of local Holocaust survivors with contemporary issues of bullying, bystanders, and world genocides. The goal of the documentary is to introduce the viewer to the Holocaust and to connect this history to our world today. For grades 7 and up. More info here.

Two screenings of Finding Kind An important film for all teen girls and parents of young girls. Finding Kind is a new feature film and movement, based upon the powerful belief in KINDness, that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying. Finding Kind documents the 10,000-mile cross-country journey of Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, two first time filmmakers who were both teen victims of "mean girls." Following the film, a panel of experts will facilitate a discussion and the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions. Open to the public. SJCC member/SJCS families: $5. The exhibition features more than 100 objects from King Tut's tomb and from ancient sites representing important rulers throughout 2,000 years of ancient Egyptian history.
