EPI NLA Newsletter - 2nd Quarter 2012

Welcome to the Second Quarter EPI and NLA newsletter of 2012!

EPI has been so busy this past 2nd quarter that our newsletter is a bit behind. Our next newsletter will come out in October and we would like to include a section on members activities, so please send us information and photos of what you are doing, like writting an article, obtaining a new professional credential, working a cool protection detail, etc., and we will include some in the newsletter. We have had and are planning a number of EP socials when we are in various parts of the country so we hope to get a chance to meet some of you while we are close to you. We hope your summer was enjoyable and we hope to meet you again soon!!

ASIS New York City Expo

EPI HQ Staff could not miss the opportunity to set up a booth and display EPI at the ASIS International New York City Expo at the Jacob Javits Convention Center located just three blocks from the EPI HQ Office. Staff members John Negus, Ana Paula Alfonso, Yvonne San Martino, and Jerry Heying worked the booth for 2 days meeting numerous potential NLA Members, graduates, and fellow security professionals.

After the one day program, there was a EP Social at the Sushi on Seven rooftop lounge with over 20 attendees including NLA members from classes 38, 41, 53, 58, 66, 68. Many new contacts were made at this "face to face" networking event, open to everyone interested in EP.

7-Day Program - Class 70 - May 2012

Class 70 was an exciting class with 43 students. The class had excellent weather and all had a good experience. Many of the long time regular Instructors were present in addition to several graduates returning to assist as well as some guest speakers such as Harlan "Hucky" Austin from Bodyguardcareers.com who spoke on finding Executive Protection employment.

Following the 7 day, we conducted a Level One Protection Response Tactics (PRT) program taught by Alan Baker and Stacy Roberts, with assistance from John and David Musser who have both been advancing their KFM skills. The 5 Day Protectors Pistol Course (PPC) was up next and several graduates were on hand to support the program. Both programs offered students additional advanced skills to add to their toolbox.

The historic first EPIC-Lifeforce conference, sponsored by both EPI and ESI, is taking shape. ESI was kind to move their annual alumni gathering from August to December to match EPI's traditional timeframe. We will also be back at the Tuscany Suites that both schools have used in the past, offering affordable accommodations just off the strip. A conference committee made up of alumni from both schools worked to organize the program. The conference speakers have been chosen and the basic schedule has been made. Please visit the EPIC Lifeforce web site:

One Day Seminar in Atlanta, Nashville and Atlantic City
EPI held one day Introduction and Overview of EP seminars in Atlanta, Nashville, and Atlantic City, as well as hosting an informal social at each location. We were able to meet many new friends as well as many NLA Members too. Remember, "Face to Face" networking is the best way to meet prospective employers and fellow EP Practitioners! The One Day seminar is a good refresher for graduates and qualifies for annual recertification for those holding the Virginia PPS certification, as well as ASIS Continuing education credits.

National Sheriffs Association in Nashville
EPI was on display at the National Sheriffs Association (NSA) in Nashville Tennessee. EPI Instructors Gene Ferarra, Stacy Roberts, and Jerry Heying all worked the both. We were visited by Instructor Tony Roper (and his wife Karen), who was attending in his capacity as the elected Sheriff of Clark County Virginia, the birthplace of EPI. There happen to be an explosion at the convention center after we finished which caused some concern for our safety but it happened while we were being treated to a fine meal by Nashville's Resident NLA Member-at-large, Tom Nolan (graduate of too many classes to list-Thanks Tom). We can assure you that the explosion was in no way connected to John Negus!
