John Longenecker Safer Streets Where have all the gun laws gone?
 O, wouldn't it be nice to see the repeal of all gun laws? Which gun laws would Americans elect to have? Would they decide on three laws? Would they decide to have none at all?
My reason for asking such a rhetorical question is this: in time of violent crime with a gun, where is the gun law?
In time of violent crime with a handgun - where the criminal is someone prohibited from possessing a gun - the gun laws are most conspicuous by their absence. Where are they?
Gun laws are absentee when they are needed most. All of law is absent in the criminal if you see his actions as a hint of that. It's up to the target of violence to understand beforehand - in preparedness - that the law is within them. The idea is for the citizen to learn more about this as a survival skill so that the law will be present even if it is not within the thugs who are present.
Otherwise, all the 20,000 gun laws written mean nothing. Hmm..
And don't think for a minute that a person's defensive use of a gun denies the criminal due process. Due process is present, too. It is kept by the reasonableness of the law-abiding out of a love for due process.
Where have all those gun laws gone? They were never at the scene of the crime nor did they prevent the criminal shooting. Who cares where they go? All non-gun owners need to understand is that gun laws are never at the scene of the crime. The law within the citizen is.
___ Let me digress for a second on the subject of citizen authority in such cases. This morning, David Codrea read on the air a few excerpts from one of my recent articles about Good Samaritans. I remarked about the beating of Paramedic Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium and wondered how it might have turned out had some Good Sams intervened. With so much obfuscation by violence prevention centers of laws which permit such intervention so very clearly, it's little wonder no one came to the aid of brother Bryan. Other Good Sams around the country are not so confused and have intervened on behalf of another in cases of school snipers and have been praised by law enforcement and others for their action. They had not been castigated for interference with police nor have they been criticized for 'taking the law into their own hands'.
Violence Prevention's obfuscating of such goodness and values is detrimental to our society and destroys our way of life. Norway is one such example of the consequences of this. All 'Gun free Zones' and completed acts of violence are further examples.
Violence prevention centers who neglect to mention such options for survival and citizen safety need to be countered by defensive gun use courses which emphasize one's authority to act in their informative content.
