ASI Quality program | |
|
ASI is committed to delivering the highest quality products in the industry. Over a decade ago, ASI developed and implemented an ISO9000 compliant quality system. As with any good quality plan it has constantly evolved as technology and additional data has emerged. With the new decade comes new opportunities to improve in all aspects of our business and quality is the top priority. A reassessment of our quality process and procedures revealed that ASI has a good quality plan which could lead some to continue without making any substantive changes to a system which works. ASI management determined that good is not good enough, we need to be exceptional to face the needs of our customers in an ever changing environment. A good quality program is one which meets all requirements but an exceptional program is one which goes above and beyond the necessary. Traditional evaluations of product quality such as warranty returns, product recalls and returned goods indicate that ASI produces a very good, high quality product. ASI's Warranty claims have traditionally fallen well below the 1% of shipments level and for the first 4 months of 2010 has been at .52%. In spite of these numbers ASI's management has directed a review of all procedures and processes across the entire operation. This review identified several areas where ASI could improve and many procedures which were out of date with current practices. This information will be used to make refinements and, in some cases, changes to the way ASI perform many of our daily tasks with the goal of delivering the highest quality of products and service to our customers.
Product testing is a key element to verification of assembly accuracy as well as product quality. ASI has begun an aggressive upgrade of our product testing capabilities. In last month's newsletter several load test stands were identified for many of our gearbox drives. In addition too load testing gearbox assemblies ASI has recently developed and built a motor test stand which can check for many key motor performance characteristics. In the past, motors were sample tested due to the efforts necessary to obtain the relevant performance data. With the new test stand ASI will now be able to test 100% of our motors before they are assembled to gear drives or are shipped loose.
