Case Study - MK400 Durability

ASI "drops in" a more durable transaxle
Problem- A customer came to ASI with a problem.  The transaxle they were using was experiencing field failures at 400 hours with a warranty expectation of at least 700 hours.  In addition, because there were significant units in the field, a drop in replacement would be needed.  No modifications to the existing frame could be accommodated.

Review - ASI reviewed the specifications for this Floor Care application and determined that the scrubber weight of 780 lbs. with a maximum axle extension of 2.750 inches would be an ideal test for the endurance of the MK400 transaxle.  The MK400 was designed for improved performance, multiple mounting widths and quiet operation under maximum load.  In addition, because of the flexibility afforded by the housing and tube design of the MK400 no frame modifications would be needed.

Goal - ASI was challenged to meet or surpass an Endurance Test Requirement of 1200 hours.

Solution - Samples of the standard ASI MK400 transaxle were supplied to the customer for their test program goal of 1200 hours.  After weeks of continuous testing at maximum load, the ASI MK400 units passed with 1400 hours of testing.  The units were returned to ASI for inspection and found to be fully functional and quiet with minimal bearing wear and no measurable gear wear.

Is there anything else we can do for you?

Sincerely,

Bob Banion
