Case study 210 - Platform Lift Traction Drive |
|
|
ASI Design increases efficiency, reduces noise, and reduces the chance of leakage
Application - Platform Lifts are used to raise personnel up for maintenance in high places and for picking and placing stock on high shelves. The operator is able to raise and lower the lift as well as drive the lift, in the lowered position, to various areas within a retail store or plant facility. Lifts with a total weight of 4,000 lbs or less are ideal for the ASI drive technology.
History - Current Lifts use hydraulic wheel motors to drive the Lift. The hydraulic motors and pumps are noisy and less efficient than a gear drive. The higher efficiency of a gear drive means the lift can be used longer before needing to be recharged or smaller batteries may be used reducing the total cost. Hydraulic systems have the continuing problem of hydraulic fluid leaks which can be costly and unsafe. With the emphasis on going "green" and the quest for cleaner retail/factory environment, gear drives are gaining ground in this application.
ASI Technologies system -The ASI Wheel Drive 9210 was developed to answer the request for a solution to the problem of noisy, leaky, inefficient, hydraulic pumps and motors used on Platform Lifts. Our concept incorporates a permanent magnet DC traction motor with a high efficiency gear drive and a high capacity axle. The ASI 9210 can incorporate a parking brake on the motor for automatic holding with power off. In addition to the increased efficiency and decreased noise levels during operation....there is no hydraulic fluid at the drive wheel to leak! |
