Commencement Weekend: Traffic Details

The University of Hartford will hold commencement ceremonies this weekend, on May 19 and 20. Graduate Commencement Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 19, and Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies will be held on Sunday, May 20. Please allow plenty of extra time to drive to your classes and lessons as there will be heavy traffic and limited parking.

During and following Commencement Ceremonies, the flow of traffic will be directed one-way through campus. Vehicles may enter at the Main Entrance near Auerbach Hall and exit at the North Entrance near Dana Hall. Click here for a printable map of the campus.

Audition Day Reminder: Sign up for chamber music too!

Did you know? You can audition for the Chamber Music Program at the 2012 Audition Festival on Sunday, June 3!

In addition to our large ensembles, the Hartt School Community Division has a thriving Chamber Music program.  Performing in a chamber ensemble is one of the most rewarding experiences for any musician. Participants enjoy the challenge of playing or singing an independent part, the richness of the repertoire, and the close personal contact among colleagues. The chamber music program at Hartt is open to string, piano, woodwind, and brass students as well as high school and adult vocalists. Ensembles are organized by interest, age, and ability and are coached by Community Division faculty.

On Sunday, June 3rd, 2012, we will be auditioning students for our 2012-13 ensembles and are accepting audition sign-ups for the following instruments:

Bass, Bassoon, Cello, Clarinet, Euphonium, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Harp, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Viola, Violin, and Voice

To sign up for an audition time, go to our website or contact the main office (860-768-4451, [email protected]).

Winds & Brass Chamber Music Day for Middle & High School Students

Sunday, May 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm

Alfred C. Fuller Center, The University of Hartford

Have you played chamber music before and want to give it another shot? Maybe you're in a group right now and want to explore more music. Or, have you never played in a small ensemble but would like to see what it's all about?

Regardless of your previous experience or playing ability, if you are interested in joining with other students your age to explore new music with a Hartt Community Division coach as your guide, this is the perfect opportunity for you. The afternoon will feature three reading sessions, a short demonstration including some of your coaches and, of course, a pizza break to give you a chance to relax and meet other students.

The Winds and Brass Chamber Music Day is for Middle and High School winds and brass musicians and is this Sunday, May 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

Registration at the door: $10 for all students

Early-Registration:

HCD students who register online by May 18th may participate for FREE.

Non-HCD students who register online by May 18th may participate for a reduced fee of $5.

Please allow plenty of time for transportation and plan to drop off students at the Alfred C. Fuller Center. Due to University of Hartford Commencement activities, one-way traffic will be directed through the campus. You can enter campus at the Main Entrance near Auerbach Hall and exit campus at the North Entrance near Dana Hall. Click here for printable a campus map.

The Living Room Players: Inevitable Evolution

Saturday, May 19, at 7:30 pm

Grace Lutheran Church (46 Woodland Street, Hartford)

The Living Room Players (LRP) Chamber Music Society presents its spring 2012 Program, Inevitable Evolution. Performers include Hartt Community Division faculty Janet Jacobson and Dorian Antipa. The concert covers the progression and eventual breakdown of tonality in Western music's path from the Baroque to present day. Pairing works of Telemann with Samuel, and Enescu with Hersant, LRP concludes this eclectic program with young Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht, serving as the link between the tonal and atonal worlds.

This concert is free.

Congratulations to JazzWorks

Congratulations to Melissa Chasse, Artistic Director of JazzWorks and her dancers who, for the past couple of weekends, have experienced a very successful beginning.
