The Hartt Community Division welcomes new teachers

Bridget Scarlato

Bridget Scarlato received undergraduate degrees in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Westminster College and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from The Hartt School. She has performed with companies such as the Hartford Opera Theater and Opera du Perigord, with roles including Adele in Die Fledermaus, Olympia in The Tales of Hoffman, the Silver Lady in The Impresario, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Frasquita in Carmen. Concert works have included soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah, Rutter's Requiem, and Faure's Requiem.  In addition to her teaching activities at the Hartt Community Division she also currently instructs classes at Manchester Community College and and serves as music director for Holy Trinity Church in Hartford. Ms. Scarlato strives to help students develop proper breath support, correct posture, good musicianship, and solid vocal technique in a fun, encouraging, and supportive environment.

Sarah Surber

Sarah Wagner Surber was a featured dancer with Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, touring extensively for five years and currently continuing as a guest performer. Additionally, she has had the pleasure of performing with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends, Randy James Dance Works, Dodge Dance Company and Alan Danielson Dance, among others. She served as faculty at the Limón Institute at Peridance Capezio Center, NYC, and as a visiting professor at Bucknell University. Ms. Surber holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Teaching from Purchase College, SUNY, and she is an American Ballet Theatre  Certified Teacher. Ms. Surber's classes combine learning, enjoyment and respect. While work ethic and improvement are key components, an environment of fulfillment and inspiration is emphasized. Her classes focus on the strength and artistry of each individual as well as the dancer's awareness of his or her relationship to the group. In this way, dancers will find the rewards of expressing themselves with their greatest resource-their bodies.

Rochelle Bard

Praised by critics as an 'exquisite' singing actress, soprano Rochelle Bard has gained the attention of prestigious vocal competitions. She has won top prizes in the Classical Singer and Gerda Lissner competitions, as well as awards from the George London Foundation and the Licia Albanese-Puccini Competition. Subsequently, she had her Lincoln Center debut in Alice Tully Hall at the annual Puccini Gala and in Carnegie Hall for the Gerda Lissner Winners Concert. Recent performances include the title role in The Merry Widow with Utah Festival Opera as well as her debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Ms. Bard is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, UNC Wilmington, and holds a Masters degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. Rochelle Bard is also an enthusiastic voice teacher of classical, opera, and Broadway.
