Suzuki String Workshop & Masterclasses

suzThis year the Hartt Suzuki String Workshop will be held on Saturday, March 17, at the Fuller Music Center. It will be a day of intensive instruction, motivation, and fun. Guest Clinicians include Annie Barley, cello; Sandy Reuning, violin; Kirsten Marshall, violin; Sarah Smale, violin & viola; Michele Horner, teaacher for Interactive Journey Through Art and Music.

Interactive Journey Through Art and Music

We are pleased to welcome Michele Horner, creator of the Interactive Journey Through Art and Music (IJAM). Ms. Horner will be presenting an IJAM to participants as part of the 2012 Hartt Suzuki String Workshop. Mrs. Horner covers 1200 years of art and music history in a fun and engaging workshop, making connections between visual art and music blended with movement and innovative activities. Her unique approach appeals to young and old alike. IJAM has been enthusiastically received by 4 year olds and university graduate students; at elementary schools and at teaching conferences; and at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts - one of America's leading art museums. IJAM brings art and music history to life as you have never experienced it before.

Recording Opportunities for Community Division Students

The Hartt School Music Production and Technology Department is looking for recording subjects for its Sound Technology class. The department is looking for classical soloists or ensembles (any instrumentation) to be subjects for recording students' projects. This opportunity is open to Community Division students and is appropriate for prepared soloists or chamber ensembles who wish to make recordings for auditions or for their own archives.

These sessions take place in room 342 of the Fuller Center and require the musicians to be available during one of the following Sound Technology class periods during February, March or April.

Tuesday and Thursday (3:00 - 4:00 pm)

Fridays (10:30 -11:30 am)

Students who wish to record should plan for approximately 30 minutes of setup and sound adjustment. Subjects will be able to record a few takes of a piece or movement that is approximately 10 minutes long and will receive an unedited CD copy of the session within a few days. Hartt Recording Studio Engineers are available for additional editing for a fee of $50 per hour.

This is a great opportunity to make a high quality recording for little or no cost. These are graded projects for Hartt college students and they need reliable and prepared collaborators. It is important that you are sure you can attend the recording session and prepare your piece. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity please email the instructors as soon as possible. For Tuesday or Thursday sessions, email Bob Boyle (boyle@hartford.edu
). For Friday sessions, email Gabe Herman (gherman@hartford.edu).

Chamber Music Masterclass with the West End String Quartet

There will be a chamber music masterclass with the West End String Quartet on Friday, February 3, at 7:30 pm in Berkman Recital Hall. Performing ensembles include the Poland Strings Quartet and the Perfect Fourth Piano Quartet. The event is free and open to all. Join us for an evening of great music and insight into how ensemble members work together to prepare a pieces from the chamber music repertoire.
