Bruce Marks at the Hartt Community Division
 Bruce Marks will be visiting The Hartt School Community Division Dance Department on Friday, January 27th, for an afternoon of individualized coachings and a masterclass. All events will take place in Studio 3 at the Handel Performing Arts Center. The coaching session will take place from 3:30 to 5:00 pm and participants will include Community Division dance students preparing for the Youth America Grand Prix Competition. This event is open to observation. The masterclass is from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and it is for our E-F Level Intensive students. Hartt BFA students are also invited to participate. All other Intenseive levels are welcome to observe. A renowned performer and leader in the world of dance, Mr. Marks has performed with the most prestigious dance companies in the world, including the American Ballet Theater, Royal Danish Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, and the London Festival Ballet. He has served as Co-Artistic Director for Ballet West, Artistic Director of the Boston Ballet, and Chairman of the Jury for the USA International Ballet Competition. In July 2012, Bruce Marks will be returning to Hartford as the Community Division's Artistic Director for the From Studio to Stage Intensive Dance Program. Special Schedule for Hartt Audition Days:
January 28 & 29
The Hartt School will be holding College Auditions on January 28th and 29th. Hartt Community Division offices will be staffed during normal office hours; however, many classes, lessons and rehearsals will not be happening this weekend. Please review the following information regarding schedule changes for our locations.
Fuller Center (Main Campus)
Regularly scheduled Suzuki group classes, Opus orchestra rehearsal, and Vivace orchestra rehearsal will be held at the UUC. With the exception of these activities, there will be no other lessons, classes or rehearsals on January 28th and 29th unless private lesson teachers have made special arrangements. Please contact your teacher to confirm your schedule.
Handel Performing Arts Center
There will be no dance classes at the Handel Center on January 28th and 29th.
Simsmore Square
There will be no private lessons at our Simsbury location on January 28th and 29th unless special arrangements have been made with your teacher. Please contact your teacher to confirm your schedule. There will be no dance classes except for the New Simsbury Children's Ballet classes with Ms. Julianne:
Dance with Me - Saturday, 10:45-11:30 am
Discovery I/II (for 3 & 4 year olds) - Saturday, 11:30 am-12:15 pm
Universalist Church (433 Fern Street)
Suzuki group classes, Opus orchestra rehearsal, Vivace orchestra rehearsal normally held at the Fuller Center will be held at the UUC on Saturday, January 28th. Inclement Weather Procedures
If the Community Division closes or cancels events due to inclement weather announcements will be posted on the Community Division home page ( hcd.hartford.edu). Information regarding our school closures will also be available through WTIC radio (AM1080), WFSB-TV Channel 3, News Channel 8, and NBC News Channel 30. Please note that the exact TV channel may be different for individuals depending on their cable provider. The stations listed above will also list closings on their websites.

Scholarship Spotlight on Alumni: Mary Pan, organ

Ms. Pan is currently a first-year organ performance and liturgical music major at The Hartt School, where she studies with Patricia Snyder. In 2011 she was the first prize recipient in the Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition, High School Division and the M. Louise Miller Scholarship for undergraduate organ students. As a pianist, she has won numerous local competitions, including the Musical Club of Hartford High School Competition and the Audrey Thayer Piano Competition. Ms. Pan has performed with the Connecticut Youth Symphony and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Since age 11 she has served as a pianist and organist at the Chinese Baptist Church of Greater Hartford.
