UConn Cello Festival with HCD Faculty

DoaneThe University of Connecticut Community School of the Arts presents its 18th Annual Cello Festival on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Department of Music and von der Mehden Recital Hall.

The festival features guest artist Steven Doane, internationally acclaimed soloist, chamber musician and master teacher. Hartt Community Division faculty Dr. Katie Schlaikjer will host the festival and teach a workshop and Carlynn Savot will lead the Young Cellist Track throughout the day. There will also be an opportunity for students under 18 to participate in the Young Cellist Competition ($300 prize).

Registration is required. Visit www.csa.uconn.edu/cello for more information.

Shodekeh with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra
ShodekehProfessional beatboxer and vocal percussionist Shodekeh will be performing with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra's Brahms and "Beatboxing" concert series from January 5 to January 8, 2012.

Earlier this month, we were fortunate to have Shodekeh work with many of our students as part of a 3-day residency program created through a partnership between the Hartt Community Division and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Shodekeh taught improvisational techniques in the Performer's Certificate Program, accompanied Intensive Dance classes and the Adult Hip-Hop class, and worked with students at the Rawson Academy's ENCORE Program.

In his upcoming performance with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra Shodekeh will apply his virtuoso vocal acrobatics to a concerto, Fujiko's Fairy Tale by Finnish composer Jan Mikael Vainio. Click here for more information about concert times and tickets.
