Hartt Community Division Newsletter ~ December 8, 2011

Wyporek We are pleased to welcome Margaret Wyporek to the role of Program Manager in the Hartt Community Division. An alumna of the Community Division, New England Conservatory and Harvard, Maggie has begun her full time position with us this week. In this role, she will be working closely with faculty on planning, implementing and evaluating our music programs.

Maggie's arrival follows two additional full time appointments, made recently: Emily Wolfram is now the Community Division's full-time Business and Marketing Administrator and Madalyne Cross is now our full time Administrative Secretary. We congratulate all three of these talented women.

Bassoon Masterclass: Positioned for Success

Geared toward middle and high school bassoon students but open to all, this class is part of The Hartt School Bassoon Studio's annual Winter Bassoon Bash and will be led by Hartt's Senior Artist Teacher, Marc Goldberg, with Dorian Antipa, Hartt Community Division faculty. The goal of this class is to help students understand that the fundamentals of proper positioning, support, and practice lead to better performances both on stage and in auditions. This class will be useful to bassoonists of all abilities and help them to consistently achieve a more rewarding and higher level of performance.

The Winter Bassoon bash event will also include a guest masterclass with Frank Morelli and an opportunity to see instruments and supplies from Justin Miller of Miller Marketing Co. Inc.

Registration Required:

$10 general admission

$5 students with ID

FREE for students who pre-register through the Hartt Community Division ($5 at the door)

December Schedule Reminder

The Hartt School Audition Day: Saturday, December 10

There will be no Community Division activities at the Fuller Building on the University of Hartford Campus.

Dance classes at the Handel Performing Arts Center will run as scheduled with the exception of Children's Ballet 1. The 9:45am Children's Ballet 1 class will be combined with the 9:00am Children's Ballet 1 class for Saturday, December 10.

The UUC and Simsmore Square locations will be open for classes and lessons as regularly scheduled. Private lesson students should be in touch with their teachers to confirm lesson schedules.
