Shodekeh at the Hartt Community Division, 
December 5-7, 2011
We are pleased to announce the December 5-7 residency of renown beatboxer and vocal percussionist, Shodekeh, created through a partnership between The Hartt School Community Division and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Shodekeh
 

Shodekeh is a professional beatboxer and vocal percussionist in a number of fields, including dance, music and the visual arts. Using his voice as his primary instrument, he vocalizes everything from drum sets, turntables, ocean waves, to sleigh bells. He is the founding director of Embody: A Music Series of The Vocal Arts, which strives for artistic and cultural unity through the many vocal traditions of the world.

 

Shodekeh currently serves as faculty and musical accompanist for Towson University's dance department and The American Dance Festival at Duke University. He has completed a number of music commissions and has won several awards and honors in the US and abroad, including residencies with the Johns Hopkins Modern Dance Company and the Creative Alliance at The Patterson in Baltimore, MD.

 

As part of Shodekeh's Hartford residency he will be working with Community Division students in the  Performer's Certificate Program, in the Intensive Dance Program, and he will accompany the Adult Hip Hop dance class on Monday, December 5. He will also be working with students at the Rawson Academy's ENCORE Program, one of the Community Division's several public school partnerships.

Community Division Simsbury Library Recital Series
Hartt Communtiy Division faculty Mia Kang and guest cellist David Gibson will present a duo recital at Simsbury Public Library (725 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury) on Sunday December 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The performance is free and open to all. The program includes works by Faure, Chopin, Beethoven, Saint-Saens, and holiday favorites arranged for cello and piano. 
Holiday Concert Reminder: Hartford Symphony Orchestra & Connecticut Children's Chorus

The Connecticut Children's Chorus Concert Choir and Primi Voce Choir will be performing with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra on the Holiday Masterworks concert this weekend. Come hear Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker  Suite, Glinka's Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, and Vaughan Williams' Hodie.

Did you know? Hartt Community Division Chamber Music ensembles play for several Pre-Concert Student Performances preceding Hartford Symphony Orchestra Masterworks Concerts. You can hear the next Community Division chamber ensemble tomorrow, Friday, December 2, at 7:00 at the Bushnell. 

December Holiday Schedule
The Hartt School Audition Day: Saturday, December 10
There will be no Community Division activities at the Fuller Building on the University of Hartford Campus. 
 
Dance classes at the Handel Performing Arts Center will run as scheduled with the exception of Children's Ballet 1. The 9:45am Children's Ballet 1 class will be combined with the 9:00am Children's Ballet 1 class for Saturday, December 10. 
 
The UUC and Simsmore Square locations will be open for classes and lessons. Private lesson students should be in touch with their teachers to confirm lesson schedules.

Music Make-up days: December 19-23 
There will be no regularly scheduled music lessons unless make-up lessons have been arranged.

 

Dance Winter Break: December 20-January 2
There will be no Community Division dance activities at the Handel Performing Arts Center or the Simsmore Square location from December 20 to January 2. The Community Division Dance Department office will be open for normal business hours through December 23. The Dance Department office will close from December 24 to January 2. All classes, rehearsals, and normal office hours resume on Tuesday, January 3Dance classes cancelled on Monday, January 2, will be made up on Monday, April 16.
 
Music Winter Break: December 24-January 2
There will be no Community Division music activities at any locations from December 24 to January 2. All offices will be closed. Classes, lessons, rehearsals, and normal office hours resume on Tuesday, January 3.
