Hartt Community Division Newsletter ~ November 23, 2011

The Connecticut Children's Chorus Concert Choir and Primi Voce Choir will be performing with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra on the Holiday Masterworks concert next week. This powerful symphonic and choral presentation of tradtional music includes Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, Glinka's Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla, and Vaughan Williams' Hodie.

Prior to this Masterworks concert there will be a pre-concert discussion with Richard Coffey and Dr. Alain Frogley from the University of Connecticut that starts one hour prior to the performance. Topics include but are not limited to the various composers and the historical significance of the pieces being played.

Holiday Chamber Music at Hamilton Heights

We invite all Community Division instrumentalists to join us for the annual Christmas Chamber Music Party at Hamilton Heights.

Two gatherings will be held on Friday, December 9th, from 6:45 pm to 8:00 pm and Friday, December 16th, from 6:45 pm to 8:00 pm. Hamilton Heights is located at 1 Hamilton Heights Drive, West Hartford, CT 16119. All instrumentalists, including pianists are welcome. See your private teacher or chamber coach regarding participation and contact Melinda Daetsch for more information on music.

Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule

Thanksgiving break is from November 24 to November 27. During this time there will be no classes or lessons (unless there are special arrangements with your private lesson teacher). The Connecticut Youth Symphony will rehearse on Sunday, November 27. There will be no rehearsals for all other large ensembles.

December Holiday Schedule

The Hartt School Audition Day: Saturday, December 10

There will be no Community Division activities at the Fuller Building on the University of Hartford Campus.

Dance classes at the Handel Performing Arts Center will run as scheduled with the exception of Children's Ballet 1. The 9:45am Children's Ballet 1 class will be combined with the 9:00am Children's Ballet 1 class for Saturday, December 10.

The UUC and Simsmore Square locations will be open for classes and lessons. Private lesson students should be in touch with their teachers to confirm lesson schedules.

Music Make-up days: December 19-23

There will be no regularly scheduled music lessons unless make-up lessons have been arranged.

Dance Winter Break: December 20-January 2

There will be no Community Division dance activities at the Handel Performing Arts Center or the Simsmore Square location from December 20 to January 2. The Community Division Dance Department office will be open for normal business hours through December 23. The Dance Department office will close from December 24 to January 2. All classes, rehearsals, and normal office hours resume on Tuesday, January 3.Dance classes cancelled on Monday, January 2, will be made up on Monday, April 16.

Music Winter Break: December 24-January 2

There will be no Community Division music activities at any locations from December 24 to January 2. All offices will be closed. Classes, lessons, rehearsals, and normal office hours resume on Tuesday, January 3.
