Middle School Regional String Audition Workshop

OrchestraThe Hartt School Community Division offers the Middle School Regional String Audition Workshop for all Connecticut middle school students who are registered to audition for the Regional Orchestra Festivals. The workshop will allow students an opportunity to receive feedback on prepared solos and learn practice strategies for scales and sight reading. Participation is free and open to all middle school students regardless of whether they have previously registered for any Hartt program.

The workshop will be led by Hartt School faculty members Steve Larson (viola), Lydia Redding (violin), Katie Schlaikjer (cello), and Diane Slone (violin).

To reserve your place in the workshop, download and complete a reservation form or complete the online form. Reservations must be received by Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

For more information contact Diane Slone, Chair of the Strings Department, at slone@hartford.edu.

Craig Hart performs with the Opera Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall
Craig HartOn Sunday, November 6th, Community Division faculty member Craig Hart sang the bass role of Prince de Bouillon in the Opera Orchestra of New York's performance of Adriana Lecouvreur. The concert was held at Carnegie Hall where Mr. Hart shared the stage with soprano Angela Gheorghiu, tenor Jonas Kaufmann, soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, and baritone Ambrigio Maestri.

The performance marked the 109th anniversary of Francesco Cilea and Arturo Colautti's opera, Adriana Lecouvreur. This work is named for a French actress who was widely popular during the early eighteenth century and died under mysterious circumstances. You can read more about the performance in The Classical Review.
