Music in Infancy: a presentation by Dr. Feierabend
Professor John Feierabend, director of the Music Education Division at The Hartt School, will present a lecture on "Music in Infancy: A Forgotten Art" on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7 pm at the Mandell Jewish Community Center, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford.
"Music in Infancy" is a collaboration with the Presidents' College at the University of Hartford, and is based on the idea that all children are born with some potential to succeed musically. However, with a lack of musical experiences in the early years, children lose their intuitive ability to make accurate musical responses. Dr. Feierabend argues that musical development acquired in folk songs and nursery rhymes has been fading in recent decades as society changes from music makers to music consumers.
The event is open to all. There is a $10 charge. For more information, visit the Mandell JCC website.
