Joshua Hummel appointed director of Celesti Sondato
The Hartt School Community Division welcomes new faculty member Joshua Hummel as the director of Celesti Sondato, the adult chamber choir. Mr. Hummel succeeds Noah Glynn who was recently appointed Director of the Greater New Haven Community Chorus. Mr. Glynn will stay involved with Celesti Sondato as the Artistic Advisor.
Joshua Hummel
Mr. Hummel is a conductor, composer and teacher from North Carolina. He received a Bachelor in Music degree and a Masters in Fine Arts degree at Bob Jones University in South Carolina. He also went on to complete a Masters in Music Composition at The Hartt School, where he studied with Robert Carl, Kenneth Steen and Larry Alan Smith. His instrumental and choral ensemble compositions have won several awards, including first prize in the Austin Civic Orchestra Composition Competition (Haiku Symphony No. 2, 2011) and first place in the Spectrum Singers 30th Anniversary Choral Composition Competition (Novum Decus Oritur, 2010). In addition to directing Celesti Sondato, Mr. Hummel composes for Colors in Motion (Cambridge, MA) and teaches as an adjunct professor of humanities at Capital Community College.

October Play-Ins
Suzuki violin, viola and cello students are invited to attend a Halloween Play-In on Thursday, October 27th at 5:45 pm in Fiske Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Church. Participants should bring a treat to share and arrive at 5:30 pm to tune their instruments. Everyone is encouraged to wear a Halloween costume! We look forward to seeing you there! 
 
WESQ
The Hartt Community Division is having a Play-In for adults too! All string, wind, brass and piano players are welcome. The play-in will be on Sunday, October 16th, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Participants will meet in Sukman Foyer at The Hartt School before splitting into groups for the first of three sessions. The West End String Quartet will host the Play-In and play side-by-side with participants all afternoon. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.
